Jericho Season 1 - SPOILERS

Jericho, currently being shown in the UK on Hallmark and ITV2 and available online if you're in the US or *cough*use Bittorrent*cough*. I've just spotted this show and have watched the first couple of episodes. First thoughts...

I quite like this, and based on what I've seen thus far I'll keep watching. There's a 'Lost' vibe about it, with lots of mystery (I've never watched Lost, but I've seen the effect it's constant cliff-hangers and mystery have on people who normally don't really get into TV shows) and I'm a total sucker for post-apocalyptic fiction in general, so I'm looking forward to it.

Problems, for me at least:

- Gah, the music. Whoever did the sound design for this show needs their head examined. By turns maudlin, over-dramatic, loud and intrusive, it's basically everything background music shouldn't be, constantly making itself known right when I'm trying to concentrate on what's actually going on.

- The down-home folksiness. I've been to the US, and to predominantly rural areas too. While everyone whips out their shotguns pretty quick and wanders around tooled up (accurate based on some of the folks I met on the plains and in the mountains), there's lots of pretty corny speechmaking.

I think it's going to be really interesting to see how this show plays out, and what the wider effects on the US of this nuclear attack are. Plus finding out who's actually responsible will be very interesting. I'm praying it won't degenerate into 'Red Dawn' heroics, except with the Chinese or Muslims as the enemy.

Anyone else watching this?

i stopped watching it because of 1) it feels like Republican propaganda and 2) the godawful syrupy music.

that said, it did set up an intriguing TV show idea at first.

This show intrigues because it's gotten a lot of attention recently and it just barely registered on my radar. I haven't seen an entire episode yet, but when it comes out on DVD, I'll check it out.

Nice to see Skeet Ulrich back and all grown up now, though.

I'm working my way through it still, but the music keep setting my teeth on edge. It's sometimes so loud and intrusive you can't hear dialogue, which is an embarrassment. I dearly hope they get a competent sound designer in for the next series.

I quite like the whole setup behind it, the attacks, the breakdown of the nation, the lack of information and so on, but I think they could have done a lot better. You've got the blessed Greene family who are super best at everything and everyone loves them (two brothers, with at least two girls wanting them each). And the evil populistic and incompetent Gray. It feels so very two-dimensional.

I agree with the comments about the sound, it is quite bad. I especially dislike it when they have songs with words being sung right through pieces of dialogue. Or how about the scene when crazy gracie lies on the floor, dying after being stabbed and you hear the singer sing "Be careful what you wish for"... just so wrong.

Speaking of Crazy Gracie, that became my nickname for her after a while. She really went all over the place, from shy and bulldozed into giving up everything she had, to charging crazy prices, to giving away pesticides, to charging crazy prices again, to breaking her deal with "the bad guys" for one with "the good guys". Seems like she got a good heir though, Dale who seems to be growing into a combination of Crazy Gracie and Gruesome Gray, willing to kill those he doesn't like, and generally not caring about anyone but himself.

I might keep watching the series though, it's on the border of being good enough to keep up with, and I have to admit that I'm curious where they are going with the bigger scheme of things.
