I am a bit bored of the video-game-as-viral-marketing thing so have been avoiding the pages like the plague. Never mind that the graphic style they use feels like someone is puking into my eyes.

On the other hand the tracks I have heard are pretty tight. Survivalism reminds me of stuff off of Broken, which is a very good thing.

They've put the entire album up for streaming on the Year Zero page.

I haven't got all the way through it yet but so far I'm really enjoying it. The Good Soldier is really quite different from "typical" NIN, but I'm really enjoying its kind of groovy electro-funk vibe. Survivalism and My Violent Heart definitely stand out to me - I can see why they were chosen for leaking.

Thanks Thaddeus! For some reason I missed it coming out even though I've been checking back on the site almost daily. I think the fact that there's tons more activity there now made me miss one of the OMG LEAK!11 threads, so I didn't know.

I like the sound of this a lot so far anyway, it seems to really fit with the theme of the ARG material, and the whole thing has inspired me quite a bit.

This album is sooo fucking brilliant. It has all the layers that With Teeth didn't have for me, and there's so much in it that it'll be a long while before the songs really sink in for me. One of those rare albums where so many of the songs are great that it takes ages for it to settle in because you're spending so much time at the start being kind of overwhelmed.

At last, an album that I really looked forward to, and that I think IS totally amazing and inspiring.

Hail Trent for delivering. It actually seems to be competing with The Fragile for my fave NIN album, and I had no idea it could ever go that far.

OK, I officially love this. Especially The Great Destroyer, although it's also my main criticism of the album- the first half of the song is nowhere near long enough- the 2nd Gen-style ending is brilliant, though. It's like Wolf Eyes you can dance to.

Hmmm, really trying to love this, but not quite succeeding so far. I'll certainly give it some more listends before I give up, but thus far it's lacking the musical weirdness of NIN's earlier stuff to my ears, to a dissapointing degree. This is especially frustrating, since the internet stuff, and the colour changing CD all dripping plenty of weirdness, but so far I'm just not really hearing it in the music. I do like Vessel and The Warning quite a lot, but none of the other tracks have really done as much as I'd like for me yet. Still I'll give it plenty more time - it did take me years to realize that the Fragile was not just as good as the first two albums, but actually much, much better.

Well, personally I think Year Zero is NIN's best album, or at the very least, my favourite one.
There's only so much post-teenage teenage angst I can handle, and NIN has it in spades, and if YZ was just another album full of it I would've passed.

But damn-the-man political angst? I can never get enough of that...

Plus Atticus Ross is my personal Jesus. I love Error, and the production on this album is superb (and dirty...).
Now he just needs to get onto the Error full-length that I've been waiting for since 2004.

Capital G is awesome, so is Track 11 (don't have my copy of the CD or mp3s here...), and Track 9... and Zero-Sum... Actually, the whole album is awesome.
I wasn't into the ARG at first, but I've been getting into it over the last few days. It's actually a lot more detailed and interesting than I would've first thought.

I'm seeing NIN in 2 weeks time, and seriously, if I had my way the set-list would be nothing but Year Zero (and maybe Only, but only 'cause they didn't play it last time around).

Okay - I was listening this on the train station today, and I found myself falling prey to involuntary public shape making syndrome, whilst listening to God Given, so I think I'm beginning to get into the album now.

In This Twilight now takes my breath a way a bit as well. Definitely steeped in weirdness and in feeling.

I short I'm a bit confused today as to why I didn't think this was brilliant album a few days ago.

In This Twilight is currently my favourite NIN song (and NIN are my favourite band, so I guess that makes it my actual favourite song).

YZ is like a cross between Pretty Hate Machine and The Downward Spiral. That is, it is MADE OF AWESOME and I love it dearly.

In This Twilight would be seriously challenged by The Great Destroyer, if the latter went on for another few minutes.

I've decided one reason that I think the reason The Warning is superb is that it's basically and evil version on Bowie's Starman.

The Starman's back to check thirty odd years later and finding that we did in fact blow it, and that the children far from losing it, using it, and boogieing in fact grew up to be hateful scumfucks who still hurt and kill each other and the wolrd in alarmingly large numbers has decided it's time to get FUCKING SERIOUS with us.

I gave up on NiN a long time ago. Thought they were really fresh when they first started, I remember feeling releaved that there was someone out there doing the stuff at the time. But it quickly became a "Tool Thing" if you know what I mean... ended up seeing and hearing way too many 'tribute acts in all but name' durin the 90's. But I was at a friend's place recently and she 'showed me' the new one. Although I didn't get to hear it... she was too entranced by the heat-sensitive layout to actually play me the thing...

I dunno, think it works pretty well, depending how deluxe the deluxe ones are- if you're not the kind of person who wants to pay $300 (and, well, most of us aren't) then you can still get the albums as normal for $10... kind of makes it possible for people to make LUDICROUSLY deluxe packages, but not put the albums out of reach of everyone else by doing so.

I just ordered the $10. I've blown all my "deluxe" cash allowance for the year on Alan Moore and Throbbing Gristle.

Hey, cool so far.

As a NIN fan, I do realise that it's kind of de rigeur these days for everyone to hate on Trent. But, ffs. Whether you like his records or not, the deal on the instrumental album, and then this one for absolutely NUFFINK, not to mention giving away half of Year Zero for absolutely bugger all cash...

Obviously I'm biased because I like his music, but... I really think he's doing a good thing with this shit. Of course, it helps that he has the fanbase already, but... this is someone embracing the new way music is distributed and fucking getting it out there. If nobody else catches up, we'll have a world of NIN, Saul Williams and Radiohead. Which would be okay, though somewhat limited, if Prince wasn't still just distributing his stuff via the Daily Fail.

And I admire the perversity that encourages payments for the instrumental album, then gives away the one which has actual songs on for NUFFINK!!!

I should really have grown out of my Trent Reznor hero-worship many, many years ago, but the fucker keeps dragging me back in.

With the exception of the final track, I also thought it resembled Eno's Before and After Science, with the first section being given over to a pop sensibility and the second focusing much more on an "ambient" tone.

I've been listening to this more or less on repeat for the last few days and I'm really enjoying it. Part of it's in the album art, but there's this bleak, sort of "bare concrete" feel to the music that's really speaking to me.
