Our old friend the Drones Club makes a return appearance next Saturday, with live sets from Owlls and The Dublo. Owlls are a phenomenon, fronted by piratetastic Luc Owll, who rants, raves and saves like a man possessed by Nick Cave's sideburns and Tom Wait's whiskey bottle, backed by the sort of band of marauders you would imagine him to have pressganged into service, with the estimable violin enchantments of Justine from The Cesarians whirling out the devil's best tunes. It's true - they rock.
The Dublo is a new band from Morning Bride/Monkey Island guitarist Pete and friends, and they make a filthy blues boogie on upright bass, guitar, drums and harmonica. It's their third gig ever, and they're already making the locals sit up and take notice (or at least another swig of booze).
So come one, come all, down into the depths of Barracuda, 125 Stoke Newington Church Street, from 8.30pm on Saturday 17 February. How better to spend three quid? |
