A Drones Club presentation for the post-Valentine breakdown.

Our old friend the Drones Club makes a return appearance next Saturday, with live sets from Owlls and The Dublo. Owlls are a phenomenon, fronted by piratetastic Luc Owll, who rants, raves and saves like a man possessed by Nick Cave's sideburns and Tom Wait's whiskey bottle, backed by the sort of band of marauders you would imagine him to have pressganged into service, with the estimable violin enchantments of Justine from The Cesarians whirling out the devil's best tunes. It's true - they rock.

The Dublo is a new band from Morning Bride/Monkey Island guitarist Pete and friends, and they make a filthy blues boogie on upright bass, guitar, drums and harmonica. It's their third gig ever, and they're already making the locals sit up and take notice (or at least another swig of booze).

So come one, come all, down into the depths of Barracuda, 125 Stoke Newington Church Street, from 8.30pm on Saturday 17 February. How better to spend three quid?

Cash permitting, I'll be there. I loves me some pirate drinking music.

This sounds pretty good actually... now let's just see if the spirit moves me sufficiently to get me there!

If not the spirit, then I'm sure we can arrange for some spirits to be moved nearer to you. G'wan! It'd be good to see you there.

Just want to mention that we've added the talents of Nick Marsh, former memeber of Flesh for Lulu, doing a mysterious solo set. Who needs spirits? In one small show we've got former members of Christian Death, FFL, and Monkey Island as well as current members of Morning Bride, The Cesarians, and Urban Voodoo Machine. All on a Saturday night.

But it's not a gothy-sit-in-the-darkened-corner-and-mope gig. Nope, you have to come and move your feet to the sound of a stomping tom drum and sing along like a lusty pirate crew, at least most of the time. Unless you want to sit in the corner and mope. You just probably won't be able to get a seat.

Hee hee, that was fun. Changed back out of the suit now, so I feel normal again. Owlls were wicked, Dublo & Nick Marsh also very good...

...a fun night was had by all, as far as I could tell.
