Just because the blurb for this section mentions David Carson, I've got to ask... You people are all young and down with the kids; what's "in" in the world of Graphic Design these days? All I remember was the "end of print" scratchy David Carson style being really trendy around 96, and then everyone going to the opposite extreme with Mark Farrow's everything clean, everything Helvetica for a couple of years after that. Then I stopped paying attention. So, does anyone have a clue what's cool now?

Ask these guys, www.k10k.net, teal gradients are apparently the new grey on the web these days :-)
But seriously its a good jumping off point for all things design and webby.

I've always liked the designers republic.

...but for a nifty grab bag of all thing yummy and design related go to 04.org and click on the links page. A regular aladdin's cave of tasty design...

The single best place (for me) to get an overview of what is happening is www.linkdup.com - because they list commercial sites, personal sandboxes, collaborative projects between designers. You can spend hours surfing through the directory looking at really cool stuff.

The whole Atari/pixel look seemed very popular for awhile. I am hoping that is over.

There's a bunch of different places to go to check out what's "hot". As mentioned before, k10k is probably the best resource for lots of different places and information (yet it's down for a summer break); as is linkdup. I go to threeoh nowadays to check out some things from time to time as well.

The whole simple solution design that's come about is much better in my opinion as it's an easy read and you can get to the conceptual and informative without needless and chaotic elements. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot out there that's going to change. Communication needs to step up broadband and become more subversive before it goes through some sort of motion graphic / high-res faze that it seems to be heading for.

Beyond that though, places like presstube, kubrick.org, and born mag can be inventive and develop in a more high art state than being required to give a message that one can sell to support a business.

i am such a trendsetter. one of the first things i did in my last job was change my entire desktop set-up from basic grey to something with a little colour in it. teal gradients were easy on the eye without drawing too much attention to the computer...
