Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

I was about nine the first time I saw Doctor Strangelove. I thought it was brilliant, although I got incredibly bored during all the plane-scenes.

But back to the kick. I'm still finding a lot of joy in the old v4 Giffen "5 year gap" Legion comics, but I may be the only person on the planet. And new stuff? Um. FEAR AGENT! EC Wally Wood alcoholic spaceman. I wonder if we have a Fear Agent thread around here...

anything by Chris Ware rocks.. his latest Acme Novelty Library with the adventures of RUSTY BROWN are great.

Also I would recomend just about anything by Joe Sacco. Reading NEWS/Journalism in Comic format is a profound thing. He's got quite a few books out there of different lengths. Try something like THE FIXER which is short when compared to Palestine or Safe Area Gorazda

all of which moved me to rethink what comics can achieve.

Go stand in the manga aisle (next to the comicbook shelf, which is half-full of 'Star Wars' technical manuals) in your nearest decent-sized booksellers, and just browse til you find a coupel titles that really work for you. Then buy those. If they're a series, buy the series. Until they stop working for you. Then you move onto something else.

Or, read some Adam Warren trades. Because those are good. All of them. Even his early stuff with Toren Smith and that 'Titans' oneshot. Actually, that 'Titans' book was damn good.
