Bloody fascinating, this is. Does what it says on the box -- and with a number of interesting features, like highlighting in red where in the text of a speech the word in question appears.
The first word that comes up is, not surprisingly, Iraq... but you can search for others. Interesting to see how Iraq comes and goes in SOU addresses: zero in '01, and a mighty spike after; positioning in the speech varies as well -- fewer mentions early in the speech last year, when in a low-key "stay the course" phase, more mentions late in the speech this year, in a "going down in flames apology and face-saving dance" phase. Also its comparative frequency with other words -- economics and Iraq are almost proportionally inverse , which is an interesting observation.
Other smarter people will be able to crunch this stuff better than me, but I'm really enjoying playing with it. |
