I'm traveling to New York next month and I was wondering if anyone here knows and where to stay in manhattan that is cheep. I'm friends booked early and got a deal so I can't afford the same hotel they're in.

While I'm asking where's the best place to look for gigs in NY online?

Have you searched for youth hostels in NY? I imagine there are plenty. The universities rent dorm rooms in the summer, but I don't imagine there'll be any open when you're heading in.
