Oh Baltimore, I need your assistance!

My best friend has moved to Baltimore and she's a bit depressed from merely going to work and then back home to sit on her couch with the Big Grey Monster. Aside from the occasional foray into a bar on her block, she has nothing to do, nowhere to go, no one to hang out with.

So I ask of you: if you live in the area, she would like to hear from you. At this rate, she's afraid she will die alone on her couch and the Big Grey Monster will eat her face.

What is the big grey monster?

Obviously you've never been to Baltimore.

The Big Grey Monster is Nikolai, her gi-normous cat. I mean, seriously, this cat is huge.

Large enough to ride? Because that would start a conversation reeeeel quick.

Let's just say there's a cat out there that a toddler could ride with ease.

In fact, he has his own Myspace page. That's how big he is.

Cats have MySpace pages now?

Christ, this whole internet thing's got WAY out of hand.

(That said, my dear dead Biscuits was recorded on the official census a few years back. Religion? Jedi. Job? Making sure nobody nicks Stoatie's stuff).

Yeah, I know too many people who have given their pets Myspace pages. Luckily, my cats are Luddites. They even think hand calculators are too damn fancy.

My dog HATES technology. It distracts from the essential "paying attention to the dog"-ness of life, apparently.

in typical myspace etiquette, I've blasted out a bulletin to my peeps about your pal and fabulous kitty with a link to her profile.

Not being in Baltimore, nor knowing anyone anyone in Baltimore I am unable to offer any assistance. However she has my sympathies: moving to a brand new city is hard, and can be awfully lonely.
I suggest making friends on the internet. It's not as fulfilling as IRL friends, but you can do it in your dressing gown while drinking beer and no-one can judge you.

bitchiekittie lives in Baltimore, but I don't know how much she reads Barbelith these days.

She has a Flickr account, though, which she updates semi-regularly.

hello, kali! feel free to give her my email address - luckigrrl at excite dot com. next week a few of us are planning an outing to the charles to see pan's labyrinth, and she'll be welcome to come along. if she's crafty, a few of my friends belong to honcraft, and there are a few ongoing social opportunities for knitters (though I don't knit, so I don't know the details).

I also run an lj community for baltimore-area women called hons, which isn't updated very regularly, but it works out ok when you need something. I used to have a monthly foodies outing, but it ended up being me and 10 of my best girlfriends instead of new people, which was a hell of a lot of fun but wasn't really the point!

she could also check out lj's charmcity or the website for the city paper for events or ideas.

and encourage her not to be shy or worry about putting anyone out - I really do enjoy showing new people around baltimore. I don't know the best bars or dance clubs, because I don't dance or drink, but I do know a lot of other great venues (music, food, shopping) a new baltimore resident might go to find some new friends.

don't live in bmore anymore, but I used to, and was in the same position as you. What neighborhood(s) do you live in and want to frequent?

If you;re into drankin, I suggest The Brewer's Art: amazing beer selection, not too $$$. Upstairs is upscale professionals meeting over dinner, downstairs is dark, social brewpub. My favorite watering hole.

Oh, she lives there, not I.

I am here in stupid Atlanta where all the bars know my name.

bitchiekittie, I'll forward that info. I really appreciate it.
