Jenny Everywhere in . . . . "Say The Word"!

Three years in the making *lol* [all because of artist interrupted by the demands of everyday life, it was fully written 3 years ago], we offer a new tale of Jenny Everywhere a.k.a. "The Shifter."

(You know, I think Mark Millar had a character in Civil War #6 named "The Shifter" - or at least I know I recently saw a new D-string character from either Marvel or DC recently called "the Shifter" and wondered if any of those editors had heard of Jenny E., especially when her NYTimes mention was covered by Rich Johnston lo those many years ago...)

Enjoy, and comment away. Since when I read it, I felt this story was crying out to be set in the summer for some reason, Jenny is sporting goggles but not her traditional scarf. My tribute to all Jenny artists [at the date that I drew the page] is on page 3 (it's not cut and paste).

** generously hosted and resolution-ified by Nelson Evergreen, since the main Jenny site is inaccessbile for the time being and Alex Thoth's comics site is similarly not currently available **

In 2007....JENNY RETURNS.

"But I'm amphibious!" Fantastic. The whole thing is great fun and I rather love it. Hurrahs all around!

Wow. It's finally finished. Awesome.

And it's good. The story is a lot of fun and your art, Finder, is terrific, especially the multi-style page, which blew my mind those many moons ago when I first espied it.

Very nice.

FANTASTIC!

That was an excellent comic guys. Very well done. Finder, you and Mr. Thoth both have some real talent. I enjoyed the entire thing, and think that perhaps Mr. Wolf, you need to do more comic work. (I know I've got some stories that could use a good artist...)

Overall, great story. I won't say anything that might spoil it, so if you haven't read it yet, do so now.

It’s finally up! Thanks for posting it, Finder and for hosting it, Nelson. My computer died and I haven’t been able to replace it.

Yeah, the comic is 3 years in the making and I want to thank FinderWolf, not only for an excellent job on the art (that multi-jenny page alone is gorgeous), but for sticking with the story over time and through life’s annoying inconveniences.

At the time, I wanted to tell a story where Jenny wasn’t necessarily an action hero but more of a mentor and friend. So I wanted the whole thing to take place over a coke. The art more then makes up for the lack of action though. Also, I know some people will cry bloody murder because Jenny is on the slim side, but hopefully page 3 illustrates that Jennys come in all shapes and sizes.

Thanks again, guys, and I hope everyone enjoys it.

Thanks, everyone - I know in a few places the lettering is a bit cramped/letters too small....had to fit in a lot of text in certain balloons. I could have used the famous computer-made fonts, but I've always preferred to do hand lettering, so I stuck with the old-school method.

You can play 'spot the item' with all the artifacts and things Jenny has in her house, too...

"This Being Lacks Personality"

As far as spot the item goes, Frank's head, the Earhart portrait and the Doctor's vehicle (tiny sized).

I really dug on this, 8 pages of awesome.

I really liked the way Jenny's house looked on the outside. The line work really gave it an Alien Tech texture that makes me happy.

Also, as a bonus, here are 2 sketches of Jenny I did to prepare for this story:

Oops, I don't have a website so I hosted these on a networking page (Friendster); thought it would give direct links to the pics but it's just linking to the gallery. So click on "Gallery View" and then you can check out the 2 Jenny images that are clearly sketches on white paper (the only ones that aren't photos).

I really like the peace bomb sketch. You should make that a white ink on black shirt at cafe press and sell a billion of them.

I also put a Barbelith icon (the visual symbol for the Barbelith satellite used in The Invisibles) on Jenny's coffee cup (the first time it shows up).

Gorgeous, somehow relaxed linework, and saving the world through pop culture. What more could you want? Really like the floating house business, and would /love/ to see a coloured version with all the tropical blues... may have been inspired to get back to work on ...VS HELL part ii now... ah, didn't really want the degree anyway.

That peace bomb image would make a wicked Banksy style stencil...

Thanks, everyone! I also added a 'Fooly Cooly'/FLCL image in the 'multiple Jennys' page; I had seen the character in something and thought, "Hm, she looks a bit like Jenny and she has goggles on (and a scarf, or so I thought/projected at the time), so she's goin' in!" The first skech moriarity had ever done of her, if I'm correct (from one of the Jenny threads), is in there too.

We wanted to put a poster of a tarot card on her wall; at first we thought about doing The Tower or something and then Alex said 'best not to have such a turbulent card in our story, just to be safe... let's do a card that would really fit Jenny's character, like the High Priestess,' so in it went.

Thanks for all the kind words, folks. I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'd love to see more Jenny stories in '07. Anybody else working on one?

I'm working on a couple Jenny stories. I just need an artist. She is a great character, and really fun to write.

And Alex Thoth, I forget where I read it, but somewhere it said that you were "possessed" for a brief time by Jenny Everywhere. I'd love to know what that was like, ie. how it affected your creative processes, things like that.

If you don't want to say it in this thread, you could just PM me. Or if you don't want to say it all, just PM me and tell me to "mind your own invocations, you creep."

I could have all my facts mixed up about this entire thing, so if I do, feel free to tell me.

And that brings us back to the thread. Hopefully it hasn't been rotted too terribly much.

Believe me, I understand the difficulty in finding artists willing to work on a project not their own. I've been really lucky. That said, I'm going to suggest Digital Webbing. You can place an ad for an artist and you might strike gold. I’ve worked with some great artists found on that site.

About the Jenny possession, it was more like being able to imagine many great possible Jennys in different universes. It was my most prolific period as well. You know the page in this comic where the Nommo catches a glimpse of Jenny's everywhereness? It was something like that.

Very nice work. I enjoyed reading it quite alot. I think I need to start reading happier things though, I kept waiting for your quite optimistic story to spiral into a tale of failure and was then (delightfully) surprised when it didn't happen.

Great work, A+, would read again.

It has to be Damn Fine Hostile Takeover Part 2 It’s got an evil corporation, Jenny’s mates, cybernetic ninjas… fantastic fucking art. I love that one.

Damn Fine was damn fine. Nelson Evergreen's art is untouchable in that one. It's alot of fun.

Now, does anyone want to do like, a big Jenny brainstorming session? Just bounce ideas off of each other?
