Amusing Voice-Over Cock-Ups

According to Sky One in BSG the battle is raging on 'New Caprika', which is surely a type of herb?

Still, that's understandable when you don't necessarily watch these shows and are just given a script and pointed to a mike, what I can't understand is the woman on BBC1 insisted on presenting 'Doctor Who' and had gone through several decades of her life, and training, and didn't seem to be aware that the w in 'Who' is silent.

Any more?

Perhaps she was just a big fan of Steely Dan. Or heroin.

Are you with me, Doctor Who?

How is Caprica actually pronounced? Because I've been pronouncing it like the herb too.

That is how it's pronounced.

threadrot: it's like a spice, actually. paprika is a type of pepper, a vegetable, which is dried and ground. sorry, as a foodie, i had to clear that one up... /threadrot

Not exactly a voice-over but my favourite cock-up is from radio, when a newsreader declared something along the lines of: "It's 10 o'clock . I am an oil tanker, and Dickie Arbiter is ablaze in the Gulf."

A lot of people seem to pronounce the word "herb" wrong, too. I said Caprica as CAP-rika at a conference last year, so I hope it's not wrong. To my shame I've only seen about 2 minutes of BSG.

You're missing out on one of the finest sci-fi shows currently running.

The presenter called the planet New (phonetically) Ka-pree-kah, rather than Ka-prick-ah.

I can feel my geek-gland throbbing.

Again, not a voice-over, but Sky News' appalling subtitling. Yesterday, while sitting in the pub, I was reading on there how somebody had sent in an email claiming Shilpa on CBB was not a victim of racism but merely a victim of "Tyrone huge ego".

I thought he must be a wrestler or something.

We've done "herb" as "'erb", by the way, it's not mispronounced, it's just a cultural thing, it's all about the French, y'see.

PAP-rika, pap-REE-ka, or-EG-ano, oreg-AH-no, let's call the whole thing off.
