Can I (morally, etc) destroy this poster?

I'd like to deface it utterly. Should I?

Remove it very carefully from the frame, roll it up and send it to me. I love it!

I thought they had been around for a while, though? I remember a discussion about them here a couple of years back.

Yeah, they pissed me off then, too.

I like the blatant 1984-ness of them. They're so sinister. I too want one, but I would hang it in the bathroom, opposite the toilet, to unnerve visitors.

So yeah, don't destroy - steal and sell on eBay!

Looks like a left over prop from Children of Men.

The previous thread

Has it been in constant circulation since 2003, or has it just made a re-appearance?

C'mon, does anybody here really think somebody in this day and age would make something like that without even the tiniest wee bit of irony?

After further scrutinizing that bus looks 100% empty to me. Maybe there´s a driver but are the passengers hiding under the seats to avoid those eyes?

Legs, you should alter it so it's for OMAC!!

It has been around for some time, and I think it's a gorgeous, 1940s-retro style poster ~ it reminds me also of "The Night Has A Thousand Eyes".

I like it too. It's a bit odd they would do it because of the "OMG - it's like 1984!!" shock horror dismay, but I haven't seen it around for a while. There's been at least two more safety campaigns on tfl since then that I can remember.

seems to fit in quite nicely with tfl's big brother *cough* oyster card

the question should be, can you morally not destroy the poster?

What happens if you call the number on the poster- what are the 'additional details'?

It plays a recording of a boot stamping on a human face. Forever.

As far as police tracking oyster cards is concerned, you are not obliged to have your name linked to your card. if you choose to do that on the TFL website, then yes, they can track you, but if not then you remain anonymous.

A new question: can I destroy anyone who destroys this poster?

I'm with the people with taste: It's fucking amazing and gorgeous and I want one.

Heh. When I saw the thread title, I thought Allecto had got really pissed off with some newbie 'lither (poster as in one who posts on the board...)...

As to the poster; aesthetically, it's very pretty, but it's also kinda scary. Made me think of 1984 as well, or V For Vendetta. We have similar posters about CCTV on public transport in Dublin, but they're nowhere near as classy

Perhaps the intended association was not 1984 but wartime blighty, when London took it on the chin and stood bloodied but unbowed, everyone united against the common foe etc. An association with a period when propaganda would have been more readily accepted by Jo Public, perhaps.

I've been trying to find something similar from the period, but I'm lazy and this was the closest I could get, stylistically. Not obviosuly war-related but it's a nice one:

Man alive, check this one out: He Wanted To See Inside

Facking gorgeous. I've seen other things by Abram Games and they're all tip top.

More here, by various artists

What is wrong with you people? You should be glad that the government is looking out for you. You should welcome them into all aspects of your lives. What else do you pay your taxes for?

[end daily mail]

I too think it's beautiful and would like one. This seems to be the majority opinion. What does that say about us?

How can we find out who designed it?

It is rather lovely; I think the fact that it's also insanely creepy and would not look out of place in V for Vendetta adds a certain something.

Was I the only person who thought he meant "poster" as in "member of Barbelith"?

No, it had also crossed my mind (and many others too probably). Also, lonely as a cloud... mentioned it in his post.
