Yes, you can help make history by voting for the new Seven Wonders of the Modern World. You can vote here. you have to register to vote, but it is free.

There are 21 finalists to choose from. I am not certain which ones I would pick, yet. I am basing my vote on informed Barbelith discussion.

What would you choose, and why?

Harly very new though, are they? You'd think >300 years would be a good cutoff point, wouldn't you? I'd choose Lady Liberty, the Sydney Opera House and the Eiffel Tower, just for newness sake. I'd also add one of those giant buildings from Dubai (like the one that looks like a sail). I'd also find a big bridge, like the Golden Gate bridge.

And I'd have the Easter Island heads, for coolness sake. I'd be making them smoke tabs too.

What was wrong with the Old Wonders?

That they´re gone (six of them), and so have not much of a potential for sightseeing and people wondering about them.

I vote for Triplets' 6-pack plus (the seventh) - the Bayon Temple at Angkor.

i'm not convinced they've managed to choose particularly wondrous stuff.

i'd pick the easter island heads, machu piccu, the pyrmaid at chichen itza(sp?) and the great wall.
the rest i'd be inclined to give you if you were eager, but i don't imagine i'd have thought of them myself.
i mean, where's the wonder in the statue of liberty?
sure, it's iconic, but is that the point?
the original wonders were marvels of the ancient world, shit that you would find hard to believe even existed.

the ones i've named are the ones that still fill me with wonder. the rest are just some cool stuff some pretty dedicated monkeys built to show off.
(to be fair i haven't seen them all up close. i may well be wrong)

My picks:

Great Pyramids, Great Wall, Stonehenge, Easter Island Heads, Chichen Itsa, Angkor and Machu Pichu.

I waffled between Stonehenge and the Taj Mahal, though, but the fact that Stonehenge's purpose is still a mystery makes it cooler.

but i rekkun stevie ought to get a nod, too. i second that. everyone's feelin' pretty...
