Okay. Tuesday March 26. Do I go to:

A) The RSC production of A Midsummer Night's Dream

or

B) God Speed You Black Emperor.

Both events in the same city. Both at the same time. I can in both for nothing.

The phone lines are open now, Barbelith. I will abide by your decision as of noon on Monday March 25.

Wait. I can vote more than once, can't I?

What he said, but with more style.

And probably more profanity.

Surely there's more than one performance of the RSC?
But if not, I'm going to have to be a ponce and go for the RSC, as I'm not too keen on young people's music.

In the interests of fairness, I'd better just take Jack's as one vote. So that's two for GSYBE and one for Shaky. Mr Y - true the RSC is staying longer, but I only get review tickets for the first night, which clashes with the gig. I suppose I could pay to go to the RSC on another night, but I'm skint.

I'm gonna vote shakey. 'Midsummer' is one of my faves.

This should be taken with a pinch of salt, in the form of this fact: I have never listened to the music of GSYBE, and so have absolutely no idea what i'm on about.

It hardly needs to be said:

Godspeed, you fool, Godspeed!

(I'm gonna be missing them sadly, looks like the Birmingham show's sold out )

GYBE would be my pick. You can always get the Roman Polanski version of R&J (or the Luhrmann, come to that) on video. Efrim is slightly more difficult to pin down in such a form...

GSYBE, definitely. And tell us all about it afterwards.

Hey, if my MD recorder works, I can tape you about it afterwards...

The very possibility of capturing a Godspeed live performance on Cd/tape fills me with glee..

Glee. GSYBE! are winning...

And MC - you may have more style - although bragging about it actually loses you style points - but there is no way you are more profane than me. I thought we settled that in our streetfight at last year's Rumble? Guess I'm gonna have to whup your candy ass again...

I'd go for 'Midsummer Night's Dream' but then I'm a fairy of advancing years.

I must admit, as a Bottom of advancing years, my first thought was Midsummer Night's Dream. I need one of you kids out there (Rizla? JTB? Ari?) to tell me why Godspeed... are so much fun.

Haus about we all give each other a big lovely huggle?

Ummm....Polanski did Macbeth - I think you are thinking of Fellini. Neither of which did a Midsummer Night's Dream, to my knowledge.

The best RSC MND of recent years was the McCabe/Carlisle of about '91, but this one is apparently OK -not great, but not bad. So it probably depends how much you like Godspeed.

godspeed. shakespeare will be around long after GYBE is dust.

Godspeed. I have no idea who or what they are but MSND is a pile of whimsical wank, even if it is done by the RSC. Aren't you sick of it by now? Surely everyone in Christendom is forced to watch it at least five times when they're at school?

Crumbs. Who can argue with forceful logic like that. The swingometer's moving over...

What do you mean 'over'? It was well in the {godspeed you] black [emperor] already.
And being forced to watch MSND repeatedly at school is good for you, dammit. I've just gone back to all the stuff I had to do at school and had a marvellous time.
Apart from Cider with Rosie, obviously. That was just shit.

Go to Godspeed, toss a copy of Midsummer Night's onto the stage, and get them to act some of it out.

Or give the RSC guitars, of course...

Well because they're a band from my home town (and Shakespeare is not) Id vote for GSYBE. But I've only heard two of their songs...
However if you can convice them to accompany you to the play afterwards and do the score for it...that would soo rock....Although I sure Iron Maiden would do a better job.

Just to confuse the swingometer, I reckon you should attend either event wearing leather trousers...

Bwah hah hah hah hahhhhh!

Etc.

Just remember that GSYBE! are the dullest fucking live band in the world ever. And don't start me on the head nodding tossers (not anyone on this board, obviously) who will tell you that 10 mins of droneing is some how ground breaking.

As it turned out, folks, I opted for Midsummer Night's Dream. Call me an old fuddy duddy if you like, but GYBE just didn't seem that attractive a proposition come Tuesday night.

If you're interested, review here:

Except with <> brackets rather than [] ones. That said, I'm having no end of trouble remembering to put all the different bits (the 'a', then the 'href', then the '=', then the '"', then the '"' again...) in when I do them.
