She already fundamentally disagrees with the guy!

So that's cool. I dunno, I've not beeen watching Heroes, and maybe if I had this'd seem awful old hat, but I think Ellis has found a really good tool in the Brother Eye analog (because it looks really great) and his typical infodumps go down so much nicer with that spoonful of eyecandy.

Oddly, part of the reason I've been hesitant to watch Heroes, beside the lack of a TV, is that I'm fairly convinced I'd sit through the whole thing feeling like I'm watching a live-action New Universe revival.

I'm more feeling like newuniversal is dipping to deep into the Seven Soldiers vibe (where comedy Lost celebrity rubber masks!) and grafting a mythology onto it.

Query: how do we feel about the more common modern sensibility of having all superhumans in a given setting having the same source for their power? You could probably trace the roots back to X-Men if you wanted to. Versus, you know, the Avengers Model (mythology, super-technology, chemistry, et cetera) of empowerment diversity?

How about Midwitch Cuckoos?

I just read the first five issues back to back and am pretty damned impressed. Ellis' "rebranding" of some of his own concepts is cool and fits well into the overall story structure. This is one of the best books Marvel is putting out and I'm wondering if anybody else here is enjoying it as much as I am.

Unrelated trax jumping: so started ABRAXAS AND THE EARTHMAN, which I read when it came out ages agone. Veitch's talents were already in full bloom way back then. Wish I'd read/reread it more when I was a kid, cus the chapters I got through tonight made my brain buzz! Tran-N-dance (or dense?).

I'm a little worried that we're not going to see much outright plot movement for a while ... Ellis just seems to introduce more characters every issue. While I like the introduction of Proudhawk (who will be Psi-Hawk, I presume, pretty quick), there doesn't seem to be much actual momentum beyond the government trying to kill superhumans before they become a threat. But, maybe things are looking up with Nightmask and Ken in the Superflow...

And where's Justice? And the ancient city? There are structural problems cropping up with all the plotlines. I'd almost say he needed a higher page count per issue, maybe.

I think it reads better as a whole and that Ellis' structural approach will be best judged once the series first year/arc is over (not that comments about the structure as it emerges are not valid).

Justice and the City have been fairly well-set up thus far and I did not miss them with the new issue & the into of Psi-Hawk.

Ellis is very much a wait-for-the-trade author and this series is proving to be no exception; I'm wondering why he isn't given more of an opportunity to do OGNs rather than pamphlet series -- he may not be quite at the level of a Moore or Morrison, but he's certainly demonstrated that he has a recognizable brand. Or perhaps he should be encouraged to go more in line with some of the early issues of Planetary, the spirit of Global Frequency, and the Apparat Books -- self-contained shorts. Though I think he is at least in talks for more Apparat.

I'd still like more emphasis placed on the whys of the White Event and less on the government task-force response -- possibly by outing the supers so we can have a greater range of responses to them. But, I know, patience.

Justice and the City have been fairly well-set up thus far and I did not miss them with the new issue & the into of Psi-Hawk.

Justice and the City are both of, for me, the less interesting threads in the series -- Ken's remorse intrigues me, while Nightmask and Proudhawks are being set up as the leaders / centres of the White Event supers. I'm hoping, though, that Proudhawk doesn't die as in the original NU, and maybe we can be spared even more super-bodies in Psi-Force.

And where the hell's Jenny? She's by far my favourite character and we only got the barest opening to her thread...

Floppies amortize the cost of HC and SC releases, so I doubt we'll see many more Ellis OGN releases unless they are stand-alones like ORBITER, which was OK but sold very well for DC/Vertigo.

What's the nutshell with HEROES? Are the superpowers "given" or evolved or what?

From what I've been told, they occur due to some genetic anomaly? Looks like mutation.

its Ellis s kid, its going to be late, and eventually he's going to get bored and we're going to be left hanging, adn Joey Q can do bugger-all cause he's a superstar.

I'm Bitter, can you tell?
