So I recently visited the great city of London and happened to go to a show entitled
Faust
So. Has anyone seen it?
I thought it the most brilliant piece of theatre I've ever seen. It's not set up on a stage, no no. You have to travel to the east side of London and all the action takes place in some warehouse. You start off by visiting a bar straight out of Faulkner, then you get taken to an elevator and the very charismatic operator puts you on random floors. Five floors of action there are.
This is the genious part. Every character in the play goes about her thing and then other characters will meet up (say in a bar) and then the action starts.
What I thought most fun was the emphasis they put on exploration and the fact that you could walk into a room and find a character combing her hair then follow her and suddenly she is being thrown into a locker by two mean men.
Hmm, I feel I haven’t really expressed much of anything here. But I don’t want to tell you too much, half the fun was not knowing what the hell to expect next.
If any of you are fortunate enough to live near here I highly recommend it. |
