Help Me Win My Christmas Quiz

OK, much as I am tempted to pretend that I've compiled the following questions out of my own free time and the goodness of my heart, I haven't. It's my work Christmas quiz and I want to see if the mighty collective brain of barbelith can beat the rest of HMG (Defra branch). I think I know about half of this week's questions (and I haven't used Google, although you lot are welcome to), but I need the rest.

By the way, the rules of the quiz expressly forbid using bulletin boards etc. to find answers, but I'm ignoring them. So there.

Qustion 1:
(Hope this works)

Yum yum, I'm hungry! Who am I, who painted me and which one got away?

Question 2:

I'm a booker prize winning author. Can you name me and the artist?

Peter Carey, obv. but I don't know who painted it although I recognise the style.

Those pictures aren't working for me...

Nor me. I'm getting an "intranet" in the properties, meaning this image URL is only meaningful to your in-house computer network.

The "pictures" are coming up as links to the Wikipedia entry for "intranet" to me...

Think Lionel Blair; mime them for us, Priestess.

First one is a devilish brown coloured humanoid beastie devouring a smaller humanoid (on the right of the picture). Colours are red, brown and black. Style is apocalyptic. I'm guessing William Blake but know sack all about art.

Second one is a picture of Peter Carey in faded (water?) colours but with hardish pencil lines - the style is that of the person who illustrated Oscar and Lucinda; longish, slightly stylised people. Background is blue and there seems to be a tree of some sort behind him.

If anyone can get it from those I'll be amazed ... but impressed.

Iconoplast, that's amazing - nice one!

The Peter Carey pic isn't the right one though - hang on ... what I thought were leaves are black and white birds (magpies?) which seem to be attacking him - he's got his right (as you look at it) arm up over his head.

They haven't announced the prizes yet, which leads me to suspect that the prizes will suck. I think we're meant to do it out of sheer civic pride or something.

However, new questions were posted today (it's ongoing)! Will only bother you with the ones I can't get. They are all on a TV/movie theme.

3) What's my name and where do I live?
It's a pic of Simon Pegg in Shaun of the Dead - I know he's called Shaun but can't remember where he lives (don;t think "London" will be specific enough).

4) “The players are under so much duress, it's like duressic park out there!”

Can you name the commentator?

5) Donnie Darko: What does Donnie 'mumble' as he is being attacked by Seth Devlin? What is the literal meaning of this and what does it describe?

6) "Everything is suspect...everyone is for sale...and nothing is what it seems."

What film is this tag line from?

That'll do for now ...

And that 'Duressic' one is that darts commentator, although I can't remember his name.

You can tell I'm bored - a quick search - Sid Waddell is the darts guy

The man's a poet, well worth looking at his quotes:

When Alexander of Macedonia was 33, he cried salt tears because there were no more worlds to conquer..... Bristow's only 27.”

“Eat your heart out Harold Pinter, we've got drama with a capital D in Essex.”

... are my faves.

Right, back to the cupboard.

Donnie Darko: What does Donnie 'mumble' as he is being attacked by Seth Devlin? What is the literal meaning of this and what does it describe?

'Deus ex machina', relating to the arrival of Frank, shortly.

Shaun lives in Tufnell Park, in SOTD. Not sure where Pegg himself lives.

Doesn't he say "cellar door"? Or is that a different part of the film.

What is the literal meaning of this

I guess "deus ex machina" is a more likely answer, on reflection.
