It's My Zazen Birthday Yeah

If you life is chaotic and as mine, and it leads to a precarious birthday of regret and nostalgia, whatever you do, don't forget the beautiful things which surround you.

A man is chased by a lion over the edge of cliff.

As he falls he grabs a vine. Looking down he sees another lion circling below, while the lion that chased him waits above.

He saw a strawberry growing from the vine and he plucked it, and ate it.

How sweet it was!

The strawberry moments tend to be pretty rare on my birthdays. The whisky-fruit grows pretty heavy, though. I find an amber glaze over one's vision makes fami..lions much easier to deal with. Happy Birthday, eirdandfracar.

Yes, a very zeny birthday to you, eirdandfracar!

And why is it so many people´s birthday these days? Mine was last week, and yesterday I was at a birthday party, of a friend and it was the birthday of a guest yesterday, too.

Oh ta. For some reason this is the one day my family are nice. Doesn't make me dislike them any less. Oh well.
I can't remember where I heard this, maybe a film or some such, but:

A woman goes to a witch asking for poison to kill her mother in law because she hates her.

The witch gives her a poisoned oil and tells her to massage it into her mother in law's back everyday for two weeks and at the end of this time she will be dead.

After two weeks she runs back to the witch crying and begging her for the antidote. The witch then tells her there is no antidote. The oil she gave her was harmless.

And I'm sorry about my awful spelling btw.

Thanks Kali! Thanks Head-in-a-box!

Here is a fable:

Two boys are walking in a wood when they see a bear running towards them. One boy trips and falls but the other manages to run away and climb a tree.

The bear goes up to the boy who has fallen down, whispers something in his ear and walks away.

Later the boy who cilmbed the tree asked what the bear had whispered. Well, said the other boy he told me to watch out for people who run from thier friends when there is danger.

Oh look my dad has turned up. He is not drunk. It must be a full moon.

Oh, what a coincidence you mentioning drunk dads and fables! Four days ago, I bought the novel Otherland, and this afternoon I read a part where one protagonist told a fable about a hyena and baboons. And right after that a drunk dad showed up, reeking of beer! I´ve read almost 400 pages now, and it´s interesting enough to continue reading; but so far, I wouldn´t recommend it for a birthday gift.

I've been right through the Otherland series. I wouldn't bother with the sequals, if I were you.

a happy belated birthday eirdandfracar.

Q: What did one Zen practitioner give to another for his/her birthday?
A: Nothing.
Q: What did the birthday boy/girl respond in return?
A: You are thoughtless for giving me this meaningless gift.
To which the giver replied, "Thank you."

Slinky that was beautiful. Cheers.

It is as bad to get lost in the joy of the moment as it is to bemoan the passing of time.

Happy birthday, eirdandfracar.

Not a Koan or Haiku but here's the Night Song from Thus Spake Zarathustra. Hope you enjoy it.
