Today alone I have pressed reply to about seven or so threads, typed something, looked at it and thought, not working - I have, however been out of the practice of posting on Barbelith. My question is, do you prefer to post and let the thread develop along with your thinking on a subject, or are you more inclined to think about a thread's themes and subject and form a solid opinion before posting?

I usually wait until I know and tend to think about my posts for ages - which often results in not posting at all. The few times I have posted something that seemed only half developed to me, it felt terribly risky - I think I half expected to be pulled up about it, that other posters might say "you don't know what you are talking about" or something similar. But then I am like that in real life too, I hate venturing an opinion about subjects I feel unsure about.

I'm always posting off the top of my head, which is fine because I think I'm just about smart enough to be able to produce half decent posts a good chunk of the time*. However, posting the Boboss way does mean eating your words occasionally, and does require a willingness to self examine publicly.

As anyone will tell from even the most cursory search of these threads, I tend to follow whatcan almost be described as a free-associating style of posting, regularly saying things which, on reflection, sound shit, unfunny, and frankly offensive. This year alone I've accused Michael Barrymore of being a murderer, made a tasteless gag about Andrea Dworkin and said some quite actionable things about Grace Adams-Short mother (to be fair I feel in my rights about the latter, as Grace still hasn't changed her surname to one which doesn't imply a heightist criticism of my good self). Honestly, sometimes I think it's just my willingness to learn which means I get kept around here.

Well, that and my Samoa Joe-like manboobs, anyway.

I tend to post off the top of my head, but think a bit longer before starting threads.

I'm terribly guilty of using Barbelith as an annex to my brain. But I'm not nearly guilty enough *about* it.
