Well, Day Break has officially been canceled.
The bastards!
I was enjoying the show, but they really shot themselves in the foot. The fantastic two-hour premiere established the whole Groundhog Day-esque bit of Taye Digg's character awaking at a certain time, going through certain tasks (ie clearing his apartment of the planted gun, saving the lady from the car wreck, etc), but after that, episodes veered all over the place.
A good example would be the episode which (seemingly) took a detour with Diggs' character helping out his female partner and her junkie lover, who himself was a former cop. The entire episode, one was left wondering, "What the fuck does this have to do with Day Break as we know it?" We got the payoff at the end -- that Digg's efforts to help people could change the events of the "following day," which of course was the same day. Meaning, by showing a true desire to help his partner's boyfriend get through all his emotional turmoil, the "next day" began with his partner taking her boyfriend into rehab, for reasons she wasn't sure of. (BTW, if it isn't obvious by now, I can't think of Taye Diggs' character's name!!)
However, things turned up after that. The episode (last one aired) with the above-mentioned Alec Baldwin locked in an office with Diggs was the best episode of the show. I'm thinking Baldwin is bad luck. This makes three shows (that I know of) he's been in that have been canceled -- Firefly, The Inside, and Day Break.
The jury's still out when the remaining episodes will be shown. The full first season was filmed, but ABC is playing mum on whether these will only be shown on ABC.com, or if they'll be released on DVD.
The ultimate insult, of course, is that George fucking Lopez is now playing during Day Break/Lost's timeslot. |
