With Halloween approaching I thought that a thread detailing the stranger entities they have been encountered might be of interest, specifically ones which do not fit into the known patterns. This one concerns one of the oddest entities I have encountered which was actually on my second ever ghost investigation, quite some time ago now. The ramifications of this account are very interesting as I think it tells us a lot about the objectivity of spirits and possibly a bit about the nature of our etheric bodies.
We were investigating a haunted pub in Hertfordshire (I'll not publish exactly where as its changed hands and the current owners are not interested in any future investigations).
Through the course of the evening we were using dowsing rods to comunicate with ghosts. At the time this worked very well and we achieved a high level of objectivity with this. I found that I could do this very well, however I noticed something even more interesting in that when we had the entities engaged in what appeared to be highly emotional questions I was feeling a very powerful surge of energy in the air. This was happening even when I was not actually dowsing myself. We tested the objectivity of this and found that when I was blindfolded and unable to see the dowsing rods I could predict 100% whether the question put to the ghosts would be a yes or a no by the energy surge.
Incidentally I have since grown a lot more cautious about using Dowsing as a method of communicating with ghosts because too much information tends to be pulled from my expectations and sub-consious. I think I have channelled too many murdered barmaids to trust its accuracy. On the night that this occurred however it was the first time I had ever dowsed, and I believe that a lot of what happened was truly from outside myself. I would be interested in hearing opinions on this however.
Anyway, we had established communication with a number of entities; one of which appeared to answer to the name of Harriet as picked up by a psychic who was present. When Harriet answered questions by crossing the rods we noticed a distinct handedness in her answers; she markedly moved the right handed rod further than the left hand rod. This was true for a number of people who communicated to her with the rods and was noticed quite later on; suggesting that autosuggestion was not really a factor in this. (I actually think that autosuggestion as an explanation is over overplayed in many cases and that it is nowhere near as strong as many sceptics insist).
Towards the end of the evening however we moved our base of activities over to the dining room. Not everyone was present here as other people involved with the investigation were elsewhere, but there were about 8 people in the room including myself. Allegedly this room has been linked with poltergeist activity as well as misuse of an ouija board. We were not aware of this information initially but it was revealed during the following events.
In the centre of the room there was a hotspot which was incredibly strong - we could feel it by placing our hands over it - the dowsing rods also responded strongly to this. We tried using the rods to speak to what might be there and after a few minutes made a strong contact with something answering to the name of Harriet. At first we accepted its name but its rod crossing was markedly different here - these answers seemed to be left-rod oriented, leading us to conclude that whatever was talking to us was a bit more mischievous - if not a downright liar.
Questioning proceeded from here; and I myself stopped dowsing to give another person the rods for a go. I stood back away from everyone else, with my back to a table at the far end of the room. It was at this point that the person involved with this investigation; K mentioned about the poltergeist at this point.
Typically and perhaps rather naively I asked if we can wind it up to get it to move something - I was still hoping for effects guaranteed to make Steven Spielberg reach for his copyright lawyer. I made a few attempts to annoy it before the atmosphere in the room changed substantially. K looked at me and said she could see it directly behind me as a grey swirling mass. At exactly the same time I felt an electric shock as tangible as a punch in the nose hit me on my lower back on the right hand side. I remember saying something like "Agghh" and like Brave Sir Robin shot across the room to hide behind K. Unfortunatly whatever did this followed me and for the next hour shocked be about 10 times. Each time the same electrical sensation on the same place on my back.
I suspect at this point that it was feeding on my reactions to this and found that shocking me generated more power for itself.
Again, nipping the autosuggestion argument in the bud, I have never read any account of this sort of effect happening; so heightened expectation is certainly not an explaination in this.
At this point the investigation was coming to an end and I was almost hysterical having had more than enough. I recall taking about 2 weeks to actually calm down after this experience
The rematch!
We did go back several months later and in the same room my "friend" was there still and it seemed to remember me because it started shocking me again; this time with no provocation from me. It also started shocking another member of the investigation team; a person who was not present the first time. At one point it shocked us both simultaneously which from an investiation perspective is fascinating.
At that point enough was enough and I told it in no uncertain terms to get lost. I seem to remember directing quite a lot of anger to it as well. This seemed to work as from here on I never got any more shocks; although the other person did.
Over the course of this second investigation we also spoke (in a different room) to the entities wer had spoke to originally including Harriet. We did tap into a soap-opera like talk of affairs in this small country pub which sounds too unlikely to be true. However it seems that this communication did resolve a lot of issues these spirits were experiencing and this seemed to drain a lot of energy out of the air. This it seemed; weakened our friend in the dining room quite considerably; so possibly it was existing on a high baseline of energy generated by the emotions of the other entities.
We never actually got it to move anything however causing me to doubt whether it was actually a polt. My suspicion is that something was brought through from the ouija board sessions however on reflection I suspect something rather elemental, although something about it has the same feeling as certain fairy sites making me suspect that part of the answer lies there. It was certainly acting with a degree of intelligence and factors like the simultaneous shocking implies an objectivity to this.
I am rather interested in what it was capable of doing and to this day I have not come across any similar accounts. My suspicion is that it existed on the etheric level and thus is capable of interacting with a persons etheric body; generating an "electric shock" Perhaps my etheric body came across as more visible or vulnerable to it as a result of the psychic developement I was doing at the time; although nowadays my shielding is considerable better. I cannot explain the affect it had on the other person however as that person is quite sceptical and I am fairly sure is not a magician.
It also strikes me that with further developement of the etheric body one could generate this effect in other people. That would be very useful and amusing.
