Thursday November 9th, RADA Foyer Bar - Barbetheatre!

Alex's Grandma
19:51 / 29.10.06
Mister Alex and Miss Whisky cordially invite you to watch the rehearsed reading of their thematically linked one-act plays, The Ad Man's New Year and Sleighbells Roasting. We probably should have called the evening "Christmastime in Hell" (as a South Park tribute if nothing else), but we forgot.

The premise is that our hero brings an escort girl back to his Mum and Dad's for the Christmas period, pretending that she's his girlfriend. They are, fairly needless to say, black comedies, and go in quite different directions from the same starting point.

Just to titillate your interest, Ad Man involves a puppet crocodile with violently questionable politics, and Sleighbells includes a moving scene where somebody is wrestled to the ground then bound to a chair with tinsel.

Perhaps the perfect start to the festive season, as the ads hit the shops, it starts at 7.30pm on Thursday November 9th, is FREE and there will be drinks available throughout, because, well, it's a bar (but nicely set up with a stage and mikes and things). Here's the RADA listings link (the site also has directions, map etc.)

Come along! You know you're quite intrigued ...

They're about forty minutes each, and there'll be a fifteen minute interval for drinks and appreciation of the music of Tony Christie ('Christmas With Christie' - 14 Timeless Classics!) and quite probably the Swans.

Whisky Priestess

And drinking after as well. Whole caboodle will probably finish by 9- 9.30. Don't forget the drinking afterwards!

That sounds pretty damn cool, actually. I shall try my very bestest* to drag myself away from NaNoWriMo shenanigans and get along.

(*Not a word I plan to use in said shenanigans).

Stoat, I'm guessing you in particular would enjoy aspects of the material a fair bit.

There's a certain amount of stuff to do with what happened, tragically, in the bunker all those years ago, for example.

One knows it's wrong but it's funny, and so on.

Tryphena Absent
21:02 / 30.10.06
I'll be there and I may bring people with me.

08:50 / 03.11.06
Please, do not stand up.

The degenerate Alex has portrayed my struggle in ze above piece of "theatre". He is, of course, Communist intellectual bourgeois scum, but, as you Enklish say, no publicity is bad publicity. Also! If I do not approve of the finished product, I vill personally tear him limb from limb vith my large teeth.

In short, I can assure you all zat, voteffer heppens, ze efenink vill be ... most amusink.

Shet up! I am not talking like a Nazi in a film! Zis is zer netural voice of Alphonse!

I'll try to be there if I remember and I may even bring friends. But given how rubbish I have been at remembering Barbemeets lately, I wouldn't count on it...

Bump.

To anyone who's thinking about it, and still undecided, we'd like to say;

pleasepleasecomealongwewillbeyourbestfriendsforever

Let's face it, work committments, relationships, your social diary, any arrangements you might have made to do with anything else whatsoever - what are these things compared to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the first (ungainly perhaps, but also beautiful,) public steps of what we've come to think of as our children?

Alphonse commands you!
14:14 / 09.11.06
Alphonse is not your fecking children.

I'm still gonna try to make, it, but I've been in Salisbury all day and will need to get a dogsitter. This could be problematic.

That was brilliant. You're both brilliant. I don't know why I thought it might be shit.

I particularly liked the direction.

Whisky Priestess

Thanks, everyone, for showing up, it was much appreciated.

Sorry I didn't manage to make it. For once I actually did remember, but I'd been out walking round London taking photos all day on an empty stomach and I was knackered, so I went straight home... Bah. I suck.
