The autumnal Kosmische

After our jolly summer birthday party we just couldn't not do it all again. Later on in November we have the mighty Acid Mothers Temple (plus our own dear Hunting Lodge), but first up will be some more restrained acts of electronic ambience.

So without further ado, Kosmische presents...

ISAN+ fab from the tomcats in tokyo and ZAUM plus all the usual sort of sounds from the future played by Kosmische DJs, one of whom will be me.

It's on Thursday November 2nd at the delightfully underground* Corsica Studios, Unit 5 Farrell Court, Elephant Road London SE17 1LB - it's right next door to Elephant BR station. £7 advance, and possibly a little more on the door.

*OK, it feels underground. It's actually under the railway arches.

It is next Thursday (2nd November) for ISAN and the others, definitely.

AMT+Early Years+Duracell+Hunting Lodge is on Sunday 19th November, at the same place. I hope you're not busy then!

Well it goes without saying I'll be at the Acid Mothers show - camping outside the door if necessary. Will be nice - if that's the right word - to see Hunting Lodge again too.

The only thing about the AMT gig is that it's on a Sunday, so might not go on as long into the wee hours as shows there usually do. Then again, if people stick around, it might well.

Take the next day off work - that's the answer!

That line of thinking sounds good to me.

So what's the deal with Corsica Studios then? - their website makes it sound like a fairly odd kinda venue.

Corsica Studios hosts all kinds of shindigs and events, many of them community-based. It's located in two of the railway arches under the BR line at Elephant & Castle, though you can't hear the trains go overhead. The owners have spent the summer doing it up, but it still has a post-ravey ambience: it certainly feels much more pleasant to be at than most commercial venues.

The sound systems in each room are great too, which helps enormously, and the bar isn't right in the live area either.

It's a likely location for the proposed Barbegig - which will happen, possibly in January.

So, I was chatting to a friend of mine who really wants to see AMT as they sold out last time they played over here -- so how do we go about getting tkts in advance if we can't buy them online (which I cannot as I have no credit card and no secure internet connection) Can I reserve them and pick them up on the door? You know I am good for it and my friend is already bounding up and down with glee about it...

Anna - I can definitely reserve a couple of tickets for you to buy on the door if you can't get them in advance (by the way online tickets can be got from here).

Come early though, because the show starts soon after doors open, and I suspect Hunting Lodge will be on first. It's a packed line-up and as it's a Sunday the bands might not go on that late. Having said which, it's sometimes difficult to stop AMT once they are in full flow.

Please reserve them for me and I will make sure Clive joins me there early. (btw, if ghadis is reading this, it's the same Clive who you met that time in the pub)

I've checked the details for the 19th November and Hunting Lodge will definitely be on early - 7.30pm is the current ETA onstage.

There are still tickets left online by the way for anyone interested in getting them in advance. It will be more on the door, at least a tenner.

What with obliterating-type music from 7:30 onwards and AMT headlining, I foresee a pretty heavy-going evening... might take the advice earlier in this thread and take Monday morning off work for recovery.

What bands are playing in the middle?

18:24 / 10.11.06
The Early Years, who I've not really heard, and Duracell, who is basically a one-person Lightning Bolt tribute act of percussive awesomeness. So with a full-tilt lineup like that, Monday afternoon might be needed as well for recovery of the ears if nothing else.

There will also be a second chamber comprising The Strange Attractor Salon, run by Mink Pelican of Kosmische/Strange Attractor Journal/Raagnagrok/Stella Maris Drone Orchestra/other Fortean places, described as "Audio and visual high strangeness, channelled direct from the outer aether", which means some outrageously odd and obscure (think Indonesian zombie martial arts) films matched with equally peculiar music on a really nice sound system.

This show is going to rock on so many levels it's going to need Gryzor to sort it out.

So, after the mammoth merriment and guitar-smashing of Acid Mothers Temple et al last Sunday, what can Kosmische offer next?

Well, not Kosmische putting the events on this time around, but we'll be playing some records and hanging out at these:

Friday 1st December sees the premier ten years to the day after the events depicted of Nobody Knows If It Ever Happened, a concert film of Faust's legendary two nights at The Garage in London in 1996. This is one of the best gig films I've ever seen, and really manages to capture the feeling of being in the prsence of a band at the height of their arc-welding, hay-blowing, metal-bashing, folk-strumming, smoke-bombing, all-round art-erroristic powers.

All this and a Q&A from Jean-Hervé Peron of Faust and Andy Wilson, author of the new book on the band, plus the launch of a boxed CD/DVD set of new material from last year's storming UK tour (which my band the Stëllä Märïs Drönë Örchëstä were lucky enough to play on part of, and indeed our own Lord Nuneaton Savage was a stage-storming participant in at the Brighton gig).

It's at the ICA Cinema, and I'll be playing records in the bar (and watching the film again)

Then on Sunday 3rd December we're back at Corsica Studios for a free gig by Faust themselves as part of Elefest, plus support from Steeple remove and the long-thought disappeared kling Klang, who finally have their debut album out on Rock Action Records. It's free, but not as in turn up on the door and pop in - you have to send an email to info at corsicastudios dot com saying you would like to come to the gig as places will be limited. Once again, we'll be providing the disc-spinning in the main room, while the lovely Guerrilla Zoo take the audio-visual controls underneath the adjoining railway arch.

"our own Lord Nuneaton Savage was a stage-storming participant in at the Brighton gig".

Film sounds great though.

The film is terrific, though I'm not sure when it'll actually come out on DVD. It'll be great to see it in a cinema though.
