I'm trying to gather some friends to take a run at our first San Diego ComicCon and was wondering if there were any Lithers who are planning on going... or who have gone before and wish to dispense some sage wisdom about the event. Good places to eat and the like.

Anyone else jumping into this?

IF one of the pitches floating around in the ether right now gets picked up, I'm definitely going. But I can't afford it unless I have a book to flog.

I've gone last year and hope to go again this year. It's really quite an experience if you've got even slighlty nerdy tendencies. No matter what advice I give it's not going to be the same as actual experience. Just go and enjoy yourself doing what you like to do.

I usually end up stopping by at least for a little while every year, since I live in San Diego.

Presuming I'm still living here next year (which I may not be), I'd love to meet up with other Barbelithers.

Just to update, I am currently moving into an apartment within walking distance of the San Diego Convention Center. Drinks at my place =)

diz, do you know any good hotels around that area? I'm starting the rev of flights, et al, and was wondering where I could get very nice rooms for a group of about... 4 or 5.

Good places to eat? Anywhere not in the Convention Center. Horton Plaza is about six blocks away and has cheap eats. There's an Indian restaurant nearby that I love. Can't think of the name.

About the event? How many days are you going? Thursday is the best day. The floor is relatively clear. You can look at stuff in peace. The best day for panels is usually Friday. Saturday is a zoo. A fun zoo. So long as you don't have a tight agenda you can have a great day. Sunday is burn-out day.

Any panel with Grant Morisson is a brilliant panel, of course. I've heard Warren Ellis has announced that he's going, which is unheard of. He's probably just going to mock everyone, which should be a great show.

So the bags are packed and I'm anxious as hell. Any Lithers want to scheme a plan to meet up/ share some drinks/ visit a particular forum? Would love to put some faces to some friendly fictionsuits. Diz? Matt?
