I heard a radio ad for this today and checked it out online. Is this utter bullshit? Have any of you tried this or something simillar? How does something like this compare to ginkgo biloba?

I haven't tried any of the "smart drugs" because I lack the funds, am unsure of the long term effects, and haven't done enough research on the results.

However, if you are interested, erowid has a small section on them.

me too ... but in their absence, try running (or any kind of exercise, actually) and meditation/yoga/tai chi etc..

Exercise - both aerobic and weight-lifting - has been shown to improve cognitive function. I'm sure there's plenty of evidence to show meditation etc. also improve focus, concentration, too.

Of course, the bugger about these things is they require time and dedication in the way that a 'smart pill' wouldn't. But on the plus side, the benefits go way beyond 'smartness'... health, mood, stress relief ...

But that's a catch 22... if I have focus and concentration I wouldn't have any trouble working out and meditating... but you don't get that unless you work out and meditate!

The pill just gets the ball rolling.

if I were smart Id be able to foresee the innumerable benefits of exercise, and would embrace it as a necessary part of my life. as it stands I need something simple, to suit my slothful needs

you can get oxygen pills that will increase blood flow to all parts of the body, including the brain. you got to do it regularly though.

or go to a jungle. the pure O2 there would certainly help.

Zoom.

I looked at the ingredients of those pills and it looks like a fairly standard multivitamin - albeit a bit high on the B vitamins.

The 'special compound' listing various chemicals and herbals extracts does include a number of substances I recall from my old interest in 'smart drugs'. It doesn't list specific quantities of these, though. You probably could come up with a cheaper/more tailored cocktail thru a bit of internet research and a shopping trip to the health food store, but, as we're looking for quick fixes, if you can afford it, you should probably go for it.

Be careful, though - even 'natural' substances such as vitamins can be dangerous in overdose.

What I'm saying is, we'd all like the quick fix, and if you think these pills might work for you, then go for it. Usually, taking any action with the aim of self-improvement helps to give you a better sense of control and contentment - at least temporarily, so apart from any pyschopharmacological effect these pills might have, just taking 'smart pills' might make you smarter because you're making an effort to *be* smarter.
