So as implied by this post, I've been out of the magical scene for a bit.

Couple reasons for this: 1) I finished a novel which I actually ended up using a bit of creative juice. Surprisngly so. 2) The past 2-3 years have been forced into the pragmatic box, as my father came out as MTF and I had to do the whole "buckle down" thing, stay in a job I'm not satisfied in, and take mass ammounts of time off to help parents deal, move, and help take care after surgical procedures. Now that this has all been, essentially, wrapped up (Hey, there will even be a documentary about dad and her surgery on the BBC next year) I find myself at that odd breath you take in life after massive life events have basically come to a close.

Which seems as good a place to pick up as any. So, in order to fulfill the second part of GEK's new devotion. Does anyone have suggestions as to how to pick up one's practice after being in a Penn and Teller Skeptic mode for entirely too long?

when deciding what i should do with myself i usually go with what scares me the most, tempered by a little reason.
scary shit can be scary for good reason(hence the temperance), but usually it's the shit i'm hiding from the most.
apart from that...
i guess it depends what you used to do and what of it you stopped doing.

you probably just had a flash of something right there, and i would start with that.

Well, I've never taken a break, so to speak, but I've changed gears repeatedly.

For me, I find upping the pace is often linked to finding a new angle from which to look at things.

So after years of doing energy work and such on a small scale, suddenly doing group ritual really brought my brain in gear. A while of occasional group ritual mellowed out, and suddenly changing gears to a more shamanic style bumped me up another gear.

I haven't lost access to previous methods at all, but exploring a new method often gives me a chance to look at my existing methods in a new light, which sparks my enthusiasm for both the old and the new.

Scary is good. I'm all for scary. Also things that make you feel silly, ridiculous; a magician can't really get enough of either IMO.

What used to really inspire you in your magical practice? What do you wish you'd done more of?

Look out for synchronicities in your life. Invite the magic back to play with you and see what turns up.
