Kerouac's Spontaneous Prose: it is a fucking sham or what?

Kerouac is rife amongm ost young writers I meet in this city. They wish to be writers but do not consider it important to read, and do not consider it important to edit. Editing is apparently "unnatural", and all literature is boring. To be studied, maybe, but not to be engaged with.

How much of this actually represents Kerouac's philosophy? Do you consider his ideas to be at all helpful?

I think Kerouacs rules of spontaneous prose are filled with energy, enthusiasm & they sparkle with life and burst like a wild explosion that tears apart the mundanity of life- hey wait

it's not mundane, I can't find a single rule I could argue with
Except I haven't read Proust so I don't get 14. But then I couldn't read on the road because Jack Kerouac is a bastard and a misogynist and I'd bet was a plagiarist too.
A book read is not a life lived- yeah right. Sounds like you've met some pretty ignorant kids.
Poetry and Literature are life distilled and if it wants you
if it needs you then that process (which belongs to you and only you) might envelope you with otherness and make you a perfectionist who scans every last letter like your life depended on or have you throw up the words on the page like they are demons leaving your body.

Either way an artist is an artist and you're either an artist or you're not.

I think you really have to read and pay attention to your medium if you to want write at all.
