I'm not sure about Princess, but in my case it doesn't appear on the front page, which baffled me until I came to Policy to post that "it's gone!" and noticed it was back.

Princess

Oops, hope that would be deleted before anyone saw the stupidity of Princess. I clicked too fast, and then I was on the front page and I couldn't see it, and I panicked and...

I'm sorry.

Hey, I did just about the same thing, and only my constant compulsion to look for PMs saved me. No diminishment in my eyes.

I don't know about lines, but this comment from Sorenson in a Temple thread is fabulous and a really good reason why we shouldn't colour code the updates page:

I am a Temple newbie (by way of the excellent new recently updated thread feature)

There we go. Right there.

Colours would be pretty, but in terms of being a useful feature I think it's much better without them.

(BTW, forgot to say Thank You, Tom in my earlier post. So THANK YOU, TOM, in capitals).

People are already moving around the board a little bit differently so it will be interesting to see what happens to the posting statistics.

Tom, is there any reason the four other fora are not included? I suppose Conversation, Policy and Gathering don't really need it, but Creation could really benefit from having it's threads appear on the newly updated page. Is it possible to include it?

Tom, you’re wonderful. Thank you so much for doing this.

Gathering is already included, isn’t it? The new MB thread is showing, anyway.

I like the fact that this isn't visible from the front page so you can't immediately jump to the most posted to thread, also that the forum a thread is in isn't visible. A few barriers to this sort of functionality is kinda cool as it stops it from deforming the way people post while still being useful *thumbs up* here .

Actually the colour being there or not wouldn't have made any difference - it was the topic of the thread that pulled me in. And I wouldn't have seen that the thread existed if it wasn't for this new feature. So yes, I love it!

This is a wee bit off-topic, but could you congratulate Cal on making a site which works properly with a text-only browser. I'm working on updating a site I made a while back and thought I'd test it with Lynx. It looked pretty good, so I thought: "Hmmm, wonder what teh Barb looks like without graphics?" Tried it, and I'm using it as we speak and it's almost perfect (Having the mod names at the top slows things down, but as long as you know you can skip them, it's cool.)
I think I may use this more often. Now for the big test: see if I can sucessfully do a name change form a text-only browser...
yay Cal.

I'll thank Cal again for making a backend that's powerful enough to do fresh design work against, but I'm afraid the front end stuff is all my fault.

Can I be picky and ask that if Music can be added to this as well?

Oh! Is music not in there?

Oops - I got music and the gathering confused and have switched them around.

I asked earlier if we can we please have the Creation in? It's not the same as the Gathering or Conversation. It could really do with a boost, too.

I dig the recent thread feature!
I was a-reading a temple post because of it and someone mentioned the fortune cookie aspect of the board. I kind of like the idea of using what ever thread floats to the top (or third or fifth) place of the recent thread list as a form of biblomancy.

Go to recent threads! Ask a question and click a random thread!

thanks again for making the board shiny!

Dear Tom,

Could you please, please answer my question about Creation? I've asked it twice now, it's a direct question to you, no-one else can answer it or implement it, but you seem to overlook answering me in every visit you make to the board.

I'd really like to know if Creation could be included in the recently updated threads page, and if not, why not? Creation could really benefit from the extra traffic this page seems to be generating.

I'm sorry to keep repeating myself, but I don't appear to be being heard.

Yours hopefully

Lula.

I agree with Lula. Creation could do with being added.

I've generally been trying to avoid putting in the sort of meta-fora like Conversation, Policy, Gathering and—I thought initially—the Creation, because they seemed to be a different kind of thread. Is it general agreement that people would prefer Creation in there? If so, I'll do it straightaway.

Tryphena Absent

The Creation really isn't a meta-forum in the way that Policy and Gathering are. I think it probably should be included!

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

I'd say include Creation- I, too, wouldn't class it as such a meta-forum, and it could do with the extra exposure.

Oh yes please Tom, I do think Creation is a little different to the others.

Thank you!

Um.... has creation been added yet?

Only I can't find its most recently bumped thread within the first few pages.

iamus
01:28 / 31.10.06
Also, when I'm on the first page of the recently updated threads, it tells me at the bottom of the screen that there's about 472 other pages.

If I skip to the last page, it's completely blank.

From the bottom of the page there it only allows me to access page one again, and if I do that it now tells me there are 25 pages.

Going to page 25 takes me waaaaay back to 2001 in the archives, which is, I presume, the last page as it's meant to be.

No, Creation hasn't been added yet, I don't know why. Perhaps you can PM Tom and ask him, iamus? He missed all the comments about it in this thread for ages and in the end I PM'd him to get a reply.

Looks like the Creation has just been added, cool .

i've just noticed that the page number links at the bottom go to the policy, rather than further down the list of recently added.
i was looking for a thread that i was reading the other day that has since dropped off the first page.
i've found it now, but i noticed the glitch while looking and thought i should mention it.

That's no glitch! It's a *feature*! Gets more people involved with the Policy forum, it does!

i'm wondering...
i have recently put a couple of threads in the gathering, and it made me think.
i havent checked the gathering in a long time, ever since i deleted the bookmark tab i had with all the places i visit on it. i did that when the recently updated page arrived, when i removed all barbe-tabs but conversation, policy and added the new page.

does anyone look at gathering frequently or with any regularity?
it was always quite quiet.
i wonder if it would be sensible to have it in the recently updated list so folks don't miss things. with the new ways of browsing the board that exist, i fear that it may have become even less read than it used to be.

it may be that i dont check it but everyone else does.
do you?
do you all read it daily?
is there a good reason why it shouldnt be on the combo-page?
