Congolese sound system Konono No.1 will be playing a free show this Sunday at the Barbican in London at 3.45pm. They also play later that night as part of a Steve Reich evening, but tickets are needed for that show.
For those who haven't heard them, Konono No.1 play traditionally-derived music through home-made soundsystems, largely on amplified thumb pianos (ikembes). The results sound somewhat like African industrial trance music - or Congotronics as their European label Crammed Discs have termed the music Konono No.1 and other groups play.
So anyone coming along?
