Barbelith, if anyone can penetrate pop mysticism, it is you. This is the site we need to decipher. The good people of Ask MetaFilter are already working on it.

Viral marketing?

For a film it would seem.

No, it's the Greenland Posse. They've awoken! And learnt minimalist website design!

I don't know but I've just wasted an hour reading that askmifi page. And now I really want to know what the big blue thing is.

I am also debating whether, instead of building my own autonomous house, to just move to America so that I can live in one of the off-the-grid ones near Taos, New Mexico.

Looks like the kind of bogus internet site, the producers of LOST would start, probably as advertising for the start of the third season.

It's not that Mist. It doesn't appear to be for any telly programme.

Eight equidistant marks measuring time around a central point = Scandinavian daymarks.

Someone who has MeFi access should tell them & send on the link.

The messages hidden on the site (which were cracked on the MeFi link) leave me with a vaguely unpleasant feeling. Call me seedy (as many people have) but I wish to be neither pure nor innocent. Presumably, this means that come the Rapture I'm fucked.

I agree with one of the posters above, it smells heavily of viral marketing for a movie. Follow your nose, it knows...

Am I the only person who only gets one front page on the site with a single shockwave animation and no links whatsoever into it?

Just remembered to check back on this. To quote from the Metafilter thread :

It's for a fucking ski resort.

That's just annoyingly sad.

It makes perfect sense! Who is the most desirable, highly-targeted demographic for ski resorts?

Internet geeks! Of course! Brilliant!

Yeah, I was pretty pissed off myself when I found out.

Thats why TEH AWSUM!!!11! viral marketing for the new NIN album makes me sad. Using a mysterious puzzle of web pages to advertise something is cool in theory, and only worked in practice once or twice.

I would imagine that Taos Ski Valley got some angry email rather then reservations out of this one. Backlash can be ugly.

Except that's actually shifted more into ARG territory, and they've actually given away a large part of the stuff they're advertising for bugger all.
