For those of you in the UK who, like me, are nursing hideous hangovers and are still wondering which sunday paper to squint at over their fry-up, the Independent on Sundays 'Sunday Review' supplement is a 'Cartoon Issue' full of comicy goodness. Interviews, articles and new strips by the likes of Alan Moore, Chris Ware, Marjane Satrapi and many others. It also has the proud boast on the cover of 'Not one single photograph in the entire issie!' Perfect compliment to your eggs, bacon and nurofen.

Managed to miss this, how very annoying.

Care to share the highlights, Ghads?

I just bombed down to my local am-pm, happily they had a couple of copies left. Just having a quick browse... ooh, Charles Burns draws Marjane Satrapi... this is going to be fun.

Yeah - a quick rush to track this down was successful - as for the cover claim, it only applied to editorial pages, which was ever so slightly disappointing - I've heard that during Anguleme the local papers go 'all-comics' including the adverts...

But outside that it is a nice little object - The Indie is apparently going to serialize Ware's new serial in the UK and the aforementioned portrait of Marjane Satrapi by Charles Burns is a highlight...

Surely the best news here is that Nick Abadzis has a graphic novel coming out about Laika, the space dog.

Nick Abadzis! Hugo Tate! One of the Brit comic masters I'd commission a serial from for my dream anthology!

OOh, it is pretty. No time to read it now, but an interesting move and one which makes me feel like a special magical fortune-teller (long story).

It was pretty good. Like sleaze, i was a bit pissed off at the adverts still being shown with photos. It is a bit galling that after the front page tagline of 'no photographs in the entire issue' you turn the page to be confronted by a full page photo advert for Marks and Sparks or something. But it was great to see the Food, Gardening and Motoring pages illustrated by comic artists.

Highlights for me were the Marjane Satrapi interview-along with fantastic Charles Burns portrait- A fantasic, inspirational person who came through well in the interview i thought. I honestly think that she is the best thing that has ever walked this earth. I think God would agree. The 7 days were all about building up to Marjane.

The Chris Ware stuff was also great. Like Sleaze says, his new work is being serialised over the coming 24 weeks in the IOS and, fuck thats good. Chris Wares full page 'apology' and explanation and history of the weekly newspaper comic strip was fab. He mentioned Posy Simmonds 'Gemma Bovary' strip in the Guardian and implied how he couldn't do this sort of stuff in the States any more, where it has a great history. And he winged a bit. But in a great way.

The Alan Moore- Lost Girls interview was ok. Not anything we didn't know already. It did briefly touch on his ideas of magic and stories and the occult which i thought was intersting in context as Marjane Satrapi had also talked about similer ideas.

I really liked the Dom Joly 'Peyote' story as well. Great example of a one page biographical comic. Worked really well i thought.

Apart from that i'm still reading it. Havn't yet read Guy Delises trip to North Korea strip or the fasion one but they both look wonderful.

And, hooray!!! Nick Abadzis cooking illustrations are fab, and i'm also looking forward to the Laika biog!! A big fan of 'Hugo Tate'!!

And Tom Gauld and Simone Lias 'How we met' was good. Not enough robots though!

But all in all.........Well done the Indepenent on Sunday!!

The DeLisle one is a direct lift from Pyongyang, but it reminded me he's got a new one out, so I must seek and devour that one.
