Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Reykjavik is...hmm...well it's better than the place I was in. There's a very relaxed mood to the place, which is expressed everything from the fact that parents leave their strollers on the street when they pop into a shop to the lack of grey steel shutters in front of the shop windows at night. American and European cultures meet here, which means there's an odd mixture of foodstuffs in the shops. Overall life seems 'better' in an undefinable, can't-quite-put-my-finger-on-it sort of way. I know that when I walk to and from work I have a quiet smile on my face. Haven't come across much that really annoys me (although £5-6 for a pint of beer has the potential).
Grant: Haven't seen any butterflies yet, but I'll keep an eye open for some. Why the question though?
Liger Null: It's surprisingly warm and sunny at the moment. At night there's a bit of a bite in the wind but apart from that it's remarkably pleasant. My Icelandic colleagues assure me that many months of rain, ice and darkness await me though.
Stoatie: I wasn't dreaming of moving to Reykjavik (this whole thing was a bit of a surprise really) but now that I'm here I wonder why I didn't. It's the bee's knees. |
