Going again on Friday, fool for Lynch that I am. This showing finishes around 1:00AM.

Rabbits is now on YouTube (which will probably infuriate the 'no bootleg' DL enormously) and it's quite interesting to see how it's been worked in to the structure (I was going to say 'storyline', but y'know...)

You know what I said about YouTube annoying Lynch? They've removed all the episodes in the hour or so since I posted and left a message regarding legal grief from DL...

That's a shame...

I watched all the Rabbits episodes and linked them from my weblog whilst off work last week.... really great, unsettling stuff, and yeah, interesting how pieces from them were moved directly across in Inland Empire.

In other news, has anyone watched that video on YouTube that has about two minutes of David Lynch sitting on the side of the road somewhere in L.A. on a folding chair with a cow, a billboard promoting Laura Dern's performance in 'Inland Empire' and another one telling passersby "Cheese comes from Milk, Milk comes from Cows!".

I don't know what that was all about, but I like to imagine some ad executive in Hollywood sitting there head in hands saying "ok, that's the last time we let that guy handle his own publicity.."

Yeah... That was... Wow.

Easily the most terrifying thing I've seen recently.

So much to think about, it feels like it's alive in my brain.

With each of the "characters" having so many iterations, keeping track of who/where/when everything was happening was impossible, but it was astounding how that didn't get in the way of engaging with the "characters" or "plot". The terrifying bits were terrifying, the horrific horrific, the beautiful beautiful, the heart-breaking heart-breaking, the hilarious hilarious etc. That shouldn't be possible with an entity so amorphous.

Something I noticed when I was listening to Fantomas' Directors cut album earlier this week, which I think applies here, is how essential an air of cartoonishness and humour is to a good scare.

If you aren't fully involved with the film many of the visuals and elements of the score would be laugh inducing (The groteque close-ups, ridiculous over-instrumentation), but in the context they work so well.

Hmm, may order that Twin Peaks Gold Box so I can finally see Season 2...

Lynch also gives a daily weather report on Indie 103 FM 's Morning Show here in LA. Very indie station, with Jonesie, Rollins and Rob Zombie (!) delivering very ecclectic shows (Steve Jones' show is daily: the other two weekly). I think you can download/stream shows from the website. Highly recommended.
