Mark Danielewski- Only Revolutions

Opinions hereabouts seem to be mixed as to House Of Leaves. Personally, I loved it (apart from, I seem to remember, a part where he tried to do the "voices" of various real celebs in TV interviews, which wasn't actually BAD, but did tend to break the spell). Sequences like the guy burning the pages of the book in order to have light to write by were, though it had passed the realm of plausibilty by that point, wonderful.

I did, however, think "this guy's used up ALL the ideas he's had in his entire life in this one book". And I didn't mean that in a bad way- they were great ideas, and imho a great book. But I kind of figured he'd vanish off the radar after that, job done.

But no! He has a new book out, Only Revolutions, about which I know little other than it's a "road novel" told from two simultaneous points of view. And that there is a "suggested way" to read it.

The website looks interesting, but I've just ordered the book from my local bookshop, and am not sure I want to know too much.

Given it's been out a few weeks now, apparently, has anyone read it yet?

Please flag any spoilers, at least for a while...

Also loved HoL, also curious, also don't want spoilers. So "what Stoats said," basically.

I flipped through it at my bookstore, saw that I had to read it upside at points. My thoughts? Eh... I have too many normal books to read before I can get to this one. Maybe I'll wait until the soft cover.

Also, because of my color thing, I'm having a hard time seeing the little "o"s on every fucking page, which are light light blue. Great.

Bee tee double u, I fucking loved House of Leaves. Although I loathe the people who are on the HoL message board. It's not James Joyce, okay, people?

I too had a glance through this in Waterstone's, but I think I'm getting too old for this kind of malarkey. Dual narratives running on the same page? Read eight pages of one then flick back eight pages and start again? This makes my brain hurt. On the other hand, maybe I'll give it a go with a bottle of Pimm's at the weekend.

Bought it this morning... it certainly looks nice. A lot of effort's clearly gone into the presentation. Just finished Ellis's Glamorama though ("just" as in a couple of hours ago) and think I should maybe let that digest and save the Danielewski for tomorrow. It really is a nice book to have, though. I keep picking it up and going "ooooooh".

Stoatie - what's the review? recommend, caution, pass?

I liked HoL, and am unsure where to go from here regarding Mark Z. Danielewski's other novels.

I suck- I never got past the "ooh, this is nice" stage. But now the thread's been bumped I'm reminded to do so, and will get on the case!
