Mr. Moore On Your Telly

That Stewart Lee, comedian fella who had a hand in Jerry Springer: The Opera, is doing a show on Channel 5 tomorrow evening (Tuesday 5th September 2006). It's him giving out about religious fanaticism, something like that. Anyway, he interviews Alan Moore in it, apparently.

Can't say for sure, for sure. It's just that the paper I saw this morning said the programme will feature (I'm half-remembering this) "an interview -- of dubious relevance but definite entertainment value -- with the sole member of a modern-day sect that worships a glove-puppet snake named Glycon".

Well, it's got to be Him, right?

It's on 'Don't Get Me Started'. C5s new show where 'slebs mouth off about what riles them. Last week it was Selina Scott being unintentionally hilarious about the crapness of telly. Stewart Lee's film is titled 'Whats wrong with Blasphemy?' and i imagine it should be worth watching. Stewart Lee is, after all, pretty fab. Hadn't heard about Alan Moore being involved but Lee's a big fan and has interviewd him before.

He's interviewing Moore (& Gebbie) again soon for
ComICA (details about halfway down)

(Anyone else going? Might see you there!)

I'll try and remember 7:15 channel 5 Tuesday.

Working from memory, but love the contrast between ‘if you point the camera in a funny way, you can make him look scary’ and ‘a cup of tea, please, mate… black tea’.

Generally a good programme, I thought. Not perfect, but Lee’s likable and intelligent, and it was probably for the best that he didn’t have an on-screen argument with one of his detractors, as that would have been a bit too reminiscent of Cleese, Palin and Muggeridge, I guess.

Thank you for that, LMG. Don't have Channel 5 in Dublin.

Cheered me up, that clip. The intro taking the piss out of how Moore's normally seen on TV spots.

Ominous V.O. : ...Alan Moore...stranger to hairdressers...

...and then that line that Dave mentions, while we see Moore in front of some old church, shot from a strange angle.

Put a smile on my face. Cheers!

Alan Moore reported to be appearing on The Simpsons.

I suppose they got Thomas Pynchon twice and Moore's much less reclusive...

I'm all for Moore on The Simpsons, but what percentage of their viewers would even know who he was?

I wonder if it will be a whole episode based around him, or just a cameo?

According to the article the plot of the episode (or perhaps the subplot) involves a bigger, cooler, rival comic store opening across from the Android's Dungeon. Alan Moore shows up for the ribbon-cutting.

This is BIZARRE. Remember when everyone was pissing and moaning that comic books weren't part of mainstream culture?

Morrison and Millar were in an issue of the Simpsons comic book a while back, arguing over who was better iirc.

And lets not forget Gary Spencer Millidges Simpsons Comic version of From Hell.

I've used all those words before but never all in the same sentence...

>>>Morrison and Millar were in an issue of the Simpsons comic book a while back, arguing over who was better iirc<<<

Yeah, but that was written by Gail Simone, fellow comics writer, and seemed to be aimed towards people who read comics.

Moore showing up on the tv show is something else entirely.

I'm reminded of the episode that guest-starred Tom Savini, in which immediately after mentioning his name they had an exaggeratedly specific line of expository dialogue to explain to the audience who Tom Savini is:

LISA
Ooh, it says here that special effects wiz Tom Savini is going to be appearing at the comic book store tonight.

HOMER
Tom Savini?

MARGE
Yes. It says here he's the movie magician behind Creepshow, Friday The 13th, and Dawn Of The Dead!

They'll probably have to do the same thing for Moore.

Ooh, it says here that comics genius Alan Moore is going to be appearing at the comic book store tonight.

HOMER
Alan Moore?

MARGE
Yes. It says here he's the writer behind D.R & Quinch, Abelard Snazz The Double Decker Brain, and some lesser American works.

They get bonus points if Bart points out that Uncle Al "knows the score".

They'll have to let the Big Hairy perform a psychogeographic ritual for the win, tho.

"The Jebediah Working!"

Anyone know when this is supposed to air in the US?
