As you may know, there is a Barbelith Flickr group, but it seems a bit stagnant and lost at the moment. I would like to propose that it be focused on Barbmeets of all sorts, in order to inject it with a bit of life. And also provide an oportunity to see your lovely shining faces. What do you think.

I suppose people would have to be careful with not using real names etc when it comes to tagging and labelling them.

Well, I've always refrained from putting other people's pics up (I do have them hidden away in private files) because I'm not sure I'd want me on there, either. Lots of people don't want to be so readily identifiable. It's a nice idea but until there's better ways of filtering who can see what (I believe the buzzword is "granularity"), I'm afraid I'm going to hold off.

I would definitely like to see some more people posting pics to the pool than me and Tango-Mango. The issue of posting photos of other people is a tricky one, though -- I think you could only really do it with a clean conscience if you knew they didn't mind (though there are plenty of group admins to clean the pool if pics show up that people don't want in there, if it should come to that)

I think people could still post pictures of themselves to the pool, though -- anyone who's posted their own pic in the Photos thread, and has used Flickr to host that same image, can post the image to the Flickr pool.

The main thing that will revitalise the group is people adding pictures. Half of the ones T-M and I have added have been related to stupid board in-jokes or are of bands. I'm even tempted to put CD cover designs in there and stuff like that, too.

Anything goes, really.

Yeah, I completely understand the issue of faces/names etc. I was really just trying to come up with any kind of focus, which would encourage more pic posting. The "anything goes remit", means I never remember to post anything there.

I think that says more about you than about the group... :]

I don't think so. Flickr has a multitude of groups for every conceivable interest, functioning as ways to generate interest and create the drive to make more photos.

When all that connects group members is our Barb membership (which is not easily represented in pictures), there seems no particular reason to post any particular picture there.

I'm happy to post more, 'cos I love Flickr, but it will all be a bit random.
