The All Star Summertime's Over I Feel A Bit Chilly Now And Also Anticipate Ennui Ahead Thread

She knows it. Are you particularly sensitive to seasonal change? I've been finding that sort of thing affects me more and more these days, no matter what the season. 'Twas not enough joyful frolicking this summer', 'twas not enough wintery-warmess this winter' and so on.

Fucking Big Brother. I missed summer entirely. The weather in the BB garden looked quite nice though.

Every day this month I have been saying 'Thank you, August' out loud* for not repeating the horror that was July. This month has been AWESOME!!! At last I can wear proper clothes (jeans, hoody) again! And it hasn't rained on me all that much, and sometimes the sun has shone! Perfect British summer.

*This is a true fact.

It's completely confused BBC weather though. They don't know whether they're coming or going. They say storm, it doesn't rain all day! The weather, she's such a tease! The temperature does seem to be creeping back up, maybe we'll have a heatwave again for the last two weeks of August?

Suedey, that picture's lovely, and I'm keeping a copy (if that's cool?).

Yeah, I'm very sensitive to weather changes as well, and the feeling of Autumn approaching is great (for me). I love Autumn. Indeed, Autumn and Spring are the best seasons, I reckon; the rest is filler.

Our Lady, I agree the weather is a tease. Have you ever heard that old saying? Something like, "There's only one thing you can guarantee about the British weather: it's changeable." Keeps the BBC on their toes, anyway (and let's not forget poor, misrepresented Michael Fish and the battering he's received ever since the 1987 Storm).

But let's face it, Autumn is ACES.

Yeah, I remember Autumn. And Spring! Remember that?

Now we get plunged from heat into cold. One year soon I'll shatter, I swear it.

And we don't even get proper snow anymore in winter. Not like when I were a lad grumble grumble used to be a BOXER, YOU KNOW!

Yeah, I'm not usually even that in to summer... but I might be appropriating a certain feeling of missed oppurtunity just because I had a really great one last year, and this time it never really reached such lofty heights, and for some reason I felt it might. No drinking wine in park with chums? Sigh.

Either that or my propensity to love stuff when it's over (bands, tv shows, ex-girlfriends...) is really kicking in.

I'm quite fond of Autumn too, but I sense a DARK TIME coming. Y'know, like Doctor Who did at the end of that one episode. I hope there aren't any robot Santas though. That would really suck.

(Oh and pw, please do! I'll send you a postcard of it in the post someday if you like... when they're printed maybe.)

A late-summer-maybe-autumn storm has just hit here in the relatively scenic countryside, and it appears, worryingly, to have washed away our elder cat. Very worryingly, but hopefully she's just done what she's always done and found some inscrutable place to shelter before emerging triumphantly later.

And... Ah... I love the picture, also. Can I get in on the ground floor regarding postcards? I'll reciprocate!

Feverfew, hope your cat's OK. Sure ze is, they feel this weather coming a mile off (usually), and watch from a snug corner somewhere as we daft humans get soaked as we try to bring in the washing.

(Oh and pw, please do! I'll send you a postcard of it in the post someday if you like... when they're printed maybe.)

It's now one of my screen-saver pic's. And I'd love to get some prints sometime (I'm definitely a fan of your work). Thank you, comrade.

Stoat, I'm with you on the shattering thing. Sometimes it feels like X-men 'Inferno' when Iceman freezes the building and everyone hits it with their powers (etc); and at such times of extreme weather change, I often resemble the panel with (if my memory serves me correctly) S'ym squawking in pain.

The leaves are going to change colour soon and the trees will look like they're on fire. Can barelt wait.

Elder cat alright?

I think I'm over the short period of sad, now I'm all about jumping in puddles and leaves falling off trees. I'm very changeable, you see. Do you see arf arf etc?

Wait I'm not even sure if that's actually a joke or if it just sounded like it might be a joke and I'd work out what I meant later.

I moving to less agreeable surrounds in October, no leafy autumnal streets for me, no shades of brown and gold (apart from urban dog shit) just city grey. I'll miss the more scenic walks but really looking forward to blustery, cold, winter in the grim heart of Dublin. Hats and scarves and boots and gloves! Snow and rain and colds and porridge! Can't wait!

That picture is reminding me of everything I like about the end of summer and the start of Autumn. Wistfulness, dusk, leaf-scent, nostalgia, breath visible in the air, scarves and gloves out of storage, home to get cosy.

The elder cat did come in, thank you both for asking, with that peculiar cat expression that says "Well, I hid, but I'm still wet, and it's possibly your fault."

Summer truly feels like it has gone out here - over the last few days it has rained so much that main roads have puddles about a foot in depth. The trees haven't realised it's autumn yet, but they may be coming round to it.

Still, I personally love the transitional period between seasons...

For the first time in my life I have actively resorted to retail therapy. "Give it a go," my brain said, "despite getting as much sleep as you can posibly stand and eating properly for a change, you can feel the start of the winter blues poking you already... and you can't do anything about your dissertation. Go buy those things you've been wanting for ages."
So I have new PC speakers to replace the 10-year-old ones, a new throw for the ugly chair, and a pint glass full of raspberry and orange juice courtesy of my new hand blender.
And I still just want to get give up, get drunk and go to bed early. Maybe the fruit will kick in soon.
COME BACK, SUN! Huff.

(Oh, and my brain lied about the dissertation. Bad brain.)

It's only August yet, frail estival lifeforms. Lots of good weather and anaemic British sunshine still to come! We'll be bronzing our twelve packs, with our bikinis on, half way through September, just you wait and see...
