(Someone stop me if we've got one of these already - I googled, but to no avail.)
The General: I thought this might be useful. Now and then we might have occasion to read something written in a language which we don't understand, but someone else on Barbelith does. And that person or persons might, if asked nicely, help out by translating it for us. Savvy? In return, they get a big ol' "Thank you!" and everyone is happy.
Babelfish and dual-language dictionaries are fine, but they're often a poor substitute for a good human translator. [Edit: let's bold the language we're looking for, to make things clearer, yeah?]
The Specific: I'll go first. I'm working on a musical project which quotes several Russian songs from WWII. I have a rough, extremely literal translation already, enough for me to work with up to now, but I'd like a fluent Russian speaker to take a look at a few extracts and some song titles with an eye for preserving the poetry of the original.
If you think you might be able to help out, please PM me? I don't think it'll be too extensive - four or five song titles, and maybe a verse or chorus from each (not the entire song). My source is transliterated, I know not how well. In addition to my gratitude, I can also offer credit in the liner notes. How cool is that?
Thanks! Next! |
