Anyone else read Language Log?

Along with the Barb and a few comics, this is one of my daily stopoffs. Since this is a forum that places an emphasis on good writing and clear thought, I figured it might be of interest to many of you.

Recent posts of note:
Dissecting the "Who died and made you boss?" snowclone;
Overnegation and its uses,
Slapping David Brooks around a bit.

Anyway. It's a hell of a resource, and I learn something just about every time I log on. Tons o' fun for language nerds.

That's fucking rad, thanks for posting this! I just spent like four hours in their archives.

Having read their comments on the passive voice, I am suddenly feeling vindicated for the years of my supposedly miswritten youth. Pride and anger is swelling within me.

I'm not one to bump my own posts usually, but LL has been doing an astonishing amount of work over the last month in debunking the "emerging science of gender differences." A lot of linkage to earlier Log entries is in this article. They totally shred the easy "girls talk more than boys" crap that circulates without question, and pound away at the "girls use X words per day while boys only use Y" axiom that pops up in everything from church sermons to "science" books.

Given that there are a lot of people on Barbelith that take gender inequality, stereotyping, and bad science supporting either very seriously, I figured Language Log deserved another mention.

It is great, the whole bit recently about the "Dog-Whistle" phrases in Bushspeak was fascinating.

The few bits of LL that I am able to comprehend, I love, and the parts that I see only as though through a thick mist intrigue me. I sort of wish it hadn't been mentioned here -- it's like a favorite band that you selfishly want to keep obscure.

If somebody wants to help the 'Log, they need somebody in Britain to take a look at The Female Brain, UK edition, to see if the appalling science in the American edition is being reperpetuated.
