Cerys Matthews was the very Welsh lead singer for Catatonia if you didn't know, now returning to pop after having a couple of kids, getting married and living in Tennessee for a while(Her site and here's a recent article).
After Catatonia split up Cerys brought out Cockahoop quite quietly which became one of my favourite albums that year, and her new solo album Never Said Goodbye is released August 21st. She says this about it;
I just wanted a beautiful-sounding album with a meaty bottom end and with arrangements that didn't parody any other band, didn't parody the Beach Boys, didn't parody the Beatles and the Stones, didn't parody Motown.
I'm going to get tickets for the October tour and see her live because I'm a fan, but I think she might even win over people who didn't like Catatonia. Expect a higher profile launch this time though, news appearances and heavy playing of the single etc. but don't let that put you off- she rocks, high or low profile. |
