An idea for a pamphlet

I've got this idea about printing up some pamphlets for semptember 11 with information about other things that have happened on that day.

The idea is to raise awareness about things like the bombing of Santiago and Pinochet's coup that aren't general knowledge at the moment (at least it seems that way). I'm not saying that the WTC victims don't deserve respct and sympathy, but that other pertinent stories are being eclipsed.

I was thinking of making these available at the student union and the community/activism centre where my friend works (this in the UK).

Does this sound like a good idea? I'm probably still making assumptions and stuff at the moment so any advice would be helpful...

Not saying it's necessarily a bad idea, but I think Chomsky pushed the Allende thing quite hard already - does he draw the comparison in "Hegemony or Survival"?

Aye, I think so, but in my immediate environment it doesn't seem to be very well known. I might reference the Chomsky text.

I quite like the idea of the 9/11 links to be honest. Good idea.

Not "links"... you know what I mean.

Yeah. Not that I don't respect the rights of American victims to have some kind of, not claim exactly, but identification of "their" tragedy, but the way it's being used by right-wingers as a kind of argument-stopper is really pissing me off: "Ahh, but what about 9-11?" gets shouted at people too much round here. I figured it would be good if people could have something to counter that, and if people understood that, statisitcally I mean, because obv. killing is bad for everyone, worse killings have ocurred.

It´s not exclusively "their" tragedy. 8 % of the victims were foreign.

Some examples:
United Kingdom: 67
Japan: 26
Germany: 11
South Korea: 28
Canada: 24
Brazil: 3

I sometimes suspect many US citizens don´t realize that this crime led to changes for other nations as well. We got our very own german patriot acts, for example. And without the attack, Schröder would not have won his second term. And many german soldiers would not have been killed and wounded in Afghanistan. And our ministers of the interior could not get away with lazily justifying any idiotic idea of theirs with "attack on germany only a matter of time, we have to be prepared".

This sounds like a great idea. Pamphlets that contain large blocks of texts arn't always given the attention their contents deserve, though. Just think about how easy it is to skip long posts here.

Comic strip formats are good. Have you ever seen 'The Big Book of Conspiracies' Goddess forgive me for this Amazon link It manages to get really dense information into just a few panes.

Alternatively, post cards are great for getting a message across. They are cheap to produce and if they look good people will pick them up and distribute them for you. You can leave them on tables in cafes and pubs. Some places will welcome anything free for their customers, places that make it their business to provide space for flyers to be left, theatres, bookshops, etc.

Best of luck, keep us informed. If you get it together i would love to take some off your hands.

Alternatively, have you considered doing flyers with bullet points to promote the pamphlet? That might make people more likely to pay attention.

A good thing to mention is that 9/11, 2001, around 30.000 people died from malnutrition.

Hmm, hmm, all good ideas, folks. I'll get to talking to some chaps and chapettes shortly.
