So, Tez has decided that his two left feet are not being put to a worthwhile use and is thinking about taking up ballroom dancing.

Now I do a lot of things with my free time, but dance - in any form - is something I'm woefully ignorant of, yet deeply curious to try.

As I understand it, the teacher is intending to teach his students multiple forms (whatever that may entail), so anyone here done/does any ballroom and can give any helpful advice/hints as to how a man with all the bodily grace of a drunken walrus should proceed without crushing his partner's toes?

i'm not any sort of ballroom dance expert, my background is more in modern dance, but i have taken classes before. i think enjoying and relaxing are key. one thing i've noticed a lot of super-logical men do is *really really* concentrate, thinking that they could solve the problem if they can just focus all their mental energies on it. dance requires a somewhat different kind of thinking, less focused and more relaxed. you can think all you want, but if your muscles are tight then they still won't move.

and like any new skill, it's hard at the beginning, but it's super rewarding. my parents enrolled me in ballet at age 8 primarily because i was such a klutz, but i ended up being halfway decen in the end.
