Tom Frame - R.I.P.

Just found out that Tom Frame has passed away. His son was by his side.

His name might not mean anything to a lot of people but he was omnipresent in 2000 A.D. for most of it's 29 and a half year history.

Tom made lettering an art form, and was a master of a job that when it's done right you never notice. It's only when it's done wrong that you spot it. Tom never did it wrong.

Tom will be remembered by a lot of people for his jokey appearances in Tharg strips, alongside Burt and Mech-Quake. Indeed his droid alterego appeared on the front of the latest Winter Special.

Anyway, there may be a collection in his name arranged. If there's interest I'll let you know the details.

A sad day. Frame's was the third name I ever knew in comics, because he always came third on the Credit Card (remember when that was futuristic?). For some while I considered him more important than names like Grover, Wagner or Ezquerra because Frame's name was always there no matter what the strip.

RIP.

Wolf- I know what you mean- to this day, whenever I see the names Milligan or McCarthy I fill in the other parts of the "holy trinity".

Saw him on a panel at UKCAC about fifteen years ago. Seemed a cool guy.

A shame.

Respect to the Frame.

Guy did a great job on Sooner or Later - 'mulligan, mckarfy and fame' but let's face it:

he was the voice of dredd.

rest in peace, by grud.

Rufus Dayglo is arranging a wreath from all squaxx everywhere and if anyone does feel they want to contribute something in his name then donations to your local hospice would be appropriate.

Dom Regan and I are colouring up some of the tribute pic artwork for publication soon (in 2Kad). His lettering style was spot on and the sound effects were top notch. Much missed.

Yeah, exactly: one of the first little mantras I learned from 2000AD was Milligan, McCarthy and Frame. Even more fitting that his name was a term from comic books layout. Thank you, Tom Frame.

Just to say that 1505 has a Bolland cover to highlight the new Dredd mega-epic. Dredd and a group of judges ride out on Lawmasters. And the towering block in the centre background? Tom Frame Block.

And this weeks prog has the official tribute. The centre spread has the Frame Droid being toasted by...well...everyone. Practically every major character by practically every major artist. If you've ever read 2k you should check it out. Worth the cover price for that alone. Just to list the artists and allow the characters to speak for themselves when you see it...
