I've always found Internet identities interesting, and there seems to be a more developed awareness of them here ("Fiction Suits" and their Invisibles (and probably other-sourced) mythology as opposed to "hey, DethRayzor666 is a cool name").
There's obviously a variety of uses for 'em, but I'm curious about what utility you all find in having a "suit" as opposed to just a name.
The current "Haus" thread is also an interesting read, and kind of tangentially related to the question: would "John Cannelle"* be as much of a 'presence' as "Haus," or would a suitless Haus have less "presence" than Haus-the-entity (as opposed to id entity, which is a different suit used by a different person, or is it?)?
So, suits. How do you use them?
*Emphatically not** Haus' real name, because that's kind of the point of this thread.
**Well, it could be, but that would be a hell of a coincidence, as those are the names of two of my cats. |
