8 Sep. And no, I misunderstand all. Bonde are only touring with CSS in other countries. CSS are, however, growing on me and my request stands.

Please?

I have a living room you could stay in on the night of the 8th.

Bought the album on a whim after all the fuss here (wasn't entirely convinced at first by 'Music is My Hot, Hot Sex', due to initial plodding riff being too reminiscent of the plodding riff off 'Seven Nation Army') but now I'm hooked. Need to check if I'm working that night, but otherwise I'm THERE at 93ft East...

just learned CSS will open for... Primal Scream in the UK come November.

So, I'm assuming you think this is a good thing, then, Hector...? My drunken mind is unsure how to take the ambiguity of your statement right now...

Update: I have tickets (and the night off) for the 8th (THIS FRIDAY!) So, I guess i'll be seeing some of you there...?

sorry it sounded dubious, MM... yes, I'm thrilled! so happy for them!!! =D

Bonde has already mini-toured Europe, before the Diplo-CSS July extravaganza, so it's only CSS now.

they were supposed to open for Ladytron in the US, guess that's before the Primal Scream gigs.

their myspace page has all the dates, for those interested. i'm unfortunately stuck in the far-fetched exotic lands of Brazil for the time being...

i'm interviewing them tomorrow. if anyone has any last minute ideas for questions, fire 'em over - i'll be arranging my inquisitiion tonite, before meeting up tomorrow afternoon in old london town...

i actually want to ask a lot of questions about Sao Paulo. it seems like it's becoming an increasingly important player on the world scene, which is unsurprising considering what a megalopolis it is, but i suspect the next generation of artists to come out of there might be the ones who define the musical mythology of the place (at least for this generation).

does anyone think there's any lineage between them and earlier Brazilian bands as covered on 'The Sexual Life of The Savage' or 'Nao Wave'?

Ask them what qualities they look for in internet penpals.

No, okay. Ask them to what extent 'Art Bitch' is a condemnation or a celebration.

Let me ask you: will you be at the gig then?

nope. i'll be transcribing the interview. it's a very late cover feature, and due in on monday. fun fun fun!

auto-pilot, skip sleep if you have to, but catch them live! you'll likely be so glad you did...

they DO have a similarity to some of the post-punk stuff found in the book and anthology, but also their dauhters - and son - from Pop, you know? cheesy early 80s Pop, late-70s disco as well [I'm an advocate of "Let's make love..." being a disco tune].

let me know if you need help with translations and refference shenanigans: hectorlima@gmail.com. i ahardly notice the board's private messages much when I'm suppose to reply, but gmail is guaranteed.

pics from their Manchester gig [mostly of Lovefoxxx, but she's usually up and down and back and forth at the stage, so pretty hard not to focus os her].

I heard Bonde will be back in Europe around November, with a properly-released album.

Cars, that pic is from their first line-up, I suppose, when they had keyboard player Helena, second singer Clara [who sang in "Superafim"] and Carol [first girl in the review pic] wasn't on board yet.

the ONDA MORTAL / UMA TARDE COM P.J. mp3s and most early material you find in p2p are from that period.

Also, this is what my face looks like when I'm having to hope Bonde do Role don't clash with CSS playing my town (huh *MY TOWN*!).

Can anyone translate the end of "Music is my Hot Hot Sex" into English for me?

(edit)

Nope? Ah well, if fodao is the past tense (whatever) of foder / fuck, I guess it's a wee bit rude. Splendid.

Oh, this is pretty good stuff. I'm not sure I can agree with the Le Tigre comparison. To me Le Tigre has always been much more about expressing emotions through music (at least the good tracks). I'd rather compare them to the Swedish band Fidget (which doesn't exist anymore, but werea 90s band).

I'm sure that if I thought about it a bit more, I could come up with even more Swedish bands from the 90s they sound just like.

I wonder if it's just for nostalgic reasons I like CSS...

I can't think of a band I rate more highly in terms of expressing emotion through music right now than CSS.

They were awesome at New York's Webster Hall on Thursday night. Particularly the seque into a partial cover of Missy's 'Work It'.

The new issue of Plan B is out now, featuring the interview mentioned above, which is fucking brilliant - both the best CSS interview and the best kicking_k piece I've read to date. All this plus a kick-ass live review of 'em by Miss AMP. Go get!

As ever, I am way behind things out here. However I now have the album and they are playing Sydney on Jan 2nd.

I am not completely sold on the (the some of the arrangements sound a bit twee - e.g. Alcohol).

But I'm hoping they'll be a really fun mess live.

They were splashed on the Guardian weekend Guide last week (the week before?).

Live CSS are punk rock. No really. They played here 3 weeks ago and I was blown way (and helped carry Lovefoxx when she was crowd surfing). The Korg player hardly touched it all night and instead was playing a flying V.
Check em out!

The Natural Way

Bought the album at last, and, like always, I think my appreciation for CSS'll begin on a bum note. Who knows what I'll think in a couple of months (LaLaLa is already a grower), but so far I'm not that impressed. I'm nearly as bored with disco-punk stuff as I was with trip-hop in 1999, and anyone who's posted here since the old days just knows how much the Phat Breakzzz did my head in. It's gettin to the point where it's almost pissing me off. Albums of the moment are still The Fall - Heads Roll, The Juan Maclean - Less Than Human, my early Roxy Music Comp and the second to last Comets on Fire album. Most of this stuff is over 2 years old, but it sounds so, so much more exciting than CSS. God, Fark, I just want something that ROCXORS!! and sounds fresh.

Oh, well, I bet I really like them in the next ten minutes and then I'll feel really stupid.

The gossip about The Gossip is that their struggle to get noticed is gimmicky, and ultimately unengaging, I fear. I wonder if anyone's going to have a clue who they were in three years time.

My fear is that CSS will be a standard issue rock band live. It'll be all punk & no disco.

BTW Le Tigre are bloody awful.

Poor The Gossip. They started out so well being fat and queer and giving not a fuck, but then came out with bullshit about being a real punk rock band and hating on my darling Steffy G. That certainly made me think twice about them, but I still quite like the music.

ultimately what really matters is teh muzak, no? you can see a band's body of work by the complex that is their media persona, live shows, music videos and the album themselves. but the latter is the most important.

CSS live are very disco in the punkittude. or the other way around.

There's at least a dozen ace remixes out of Let's Make Love. There's a Spank Rock one with a new, slowed down mix, there's the RAC one with massive drums, there's one that turns into a sequence of bleeps, and there's Streetlife DJ's Rappinghood Remix. All good.

let's reanimate this thread once more, hehe.

CSS, now with 5 members, has just released a new song for free on their website, as per usual nowadays.

it's more rock-oriented, and there's a 90s vibe there somewhere.

Automatic

Well, I saw them on Monday night in Cardiff on some kind of MTV new music tour. Not a bad lineup, MGMT and the Futureheads on as well. Predictably CSS blew them both completely away.

This is the second time I've seen CSS now, I thought they were wonderful at Glastonbury last year, but they're so much better in a tight sweaty club. Lovefoxxx was as confident and sexy as she ever is.

Can't wait to hear their new album. I'm not hugely in love with the first single, but from what I can remember of the new songs they played, they sounded great.

What do y'all think about the new album, Donkey?
I've been listening to it a lot but have not found myself loving it as much as the first. I was instantly enamoured with the first album so I'm a weensy bit disappointed.

Also, I'm a 33 year old who feels like maybe I'm too old to be listening to this band regularly. I can't stop, though, any more than I can restrain my girl-crush on Lovefoxx.

Automatic: I'm very jealous that you got to see them live. They will be stopping in a few Canadian cities but none that I am near, sadly. I bet they put on a deliciously fun show.
