A quick exercise/writing motivation idea

I posted yesterday in the Exercise thread in Convo re. finishing a 100-day program of calorie counting and regular exercise, which has worked wonders for me.

I'm contemplating "signing up" for another 100 days, but with the added wrinkle that I have a word-per-calorie writing trade-off. On an average day, I'm taking in 1600-2000 calories, and if I can shove that many words into the novel I'm working on every day, I'll make progress at warp speed.

I'll let everyone know how it works... I know "mandatory word counts" are generally frowned on as too systemic and creatively crushing, but it's an interesting fitness/creation equation that could help my work on both the body and brain sides.

Maybe halving the calorie count for words, though. 2000 a day is an awful lot...

Matt, were you around these parts for Nanowrimo? Perhaps you should give it a go this year.

I'm old-school Nanowrimo, baby! Several years ago. Didn't last year, because things were weird-busy. And yes, this is sort of the same idea, but indexed against diet and lasting about three months. Part of my Nanowrimo issues is that I always wind up with something that's decent, but rushed and too short, and I never get back to expanding/revising. I'm hoping to write something that's about the right length this time 'round, and then edit the hell out of a whole book instead of trying to expand a short one.
