Big Bad Scary World

(Mods: I tried doing a search for titles like "Scary", "Scary News" [etc], but couldn't find a suitable thread for this topic. [e.g. these, three threads weren't quite what I was looking for]. However, if I'm wrong and there's already an appropriate thread, please feel free to moderate this post accordingly.)

OK, so this is the thread where you can post news/info which scares the crap out of you. News and information which people should probably know, but may not want to know. Real stuff which makes you want to "fight or flight".

e.g. My friend sent me the following link in an Email the other day and it sent shivers wriggling down my feeble spine: Mobile Execution Units or "Death Vans" have been used in China since 2004.

It was these lines which really got to me:

'The switch from gunshots to injections is a sign that China "promotes human rights now," says Kang Zhongwen, who designed the Jinguan Automobile death vans ... '

and,

China's critics contend that the transition from firing squads to injections in death vans facilitates an illegal trade in prisoners' organs ... "

I mean, the thing looks like a modern mini-bus, for shit's sake, and just imagine the horror of its potential uses. e.g. political snatch and execution squads, genocide of the homeless, etc.

Hate Groups Are Infiltrating the Military, Group Asserts

From the article:

An article in the National Alliance magazine Resistance urged skinheads to join the Army and insist on being assigned to light infantry units.

The Southern Poverty Law Center identified the author as Steven Barry, who it said was a former Special Forces officer who was the alliance's "military unit coordinator."

"Light infantry is your branch of choice because the coming race war and the ethnic cleansing to follow will be very much an infantryman's war," he wrote. "It will be house-to-house, neighborhood-by-neighborhood until your town or city is cleared and the alien races are driven into the countryside where they can be hunted down and 'cleansed.' "

He concluded: "As a professional soldier, my goal is to fill the ranks of the United States Army with skinheads. As street brawlers, you will be useless in the coming race war. As trained infantrymen, you will join the ranks of the Aryan warrior brotherhood."

I am speechless.

I'm not sure i like the idea thread- while i appreciate that both the above news storys are worthy of their own threads, to lump anything scary together completely devalues their impact and feels pretty insensitive- more voyeuristic than genuine concern.

I can see a thread like this working in conversation for crappy joke/ bizaro news storys- but that ain't what we're talking about is it.

There are whole conversations to be had on both right wing infiltration of the military and death squads in china- but by bumping them together the storys don't get the space to be discussed.

Sorry to sound like a killjoy but wouldn't it be better to let the thread die and start the discussions again in headshop under their own banners?

Well, you're not exactly killing joy, are you?

You do make a good point, Copey. I'm going to let my above post stand, but will copy the text and start a thread in the Head Shop or the Switchboard. I do agree that this issue merits wider discussion, but am unsure of where I'd like that discussion to start. Will have a think and start over.

monk-

I read an article covering that same topic where a US Army spokesman said that they have found Aryan Nation grafiti in Iraq. Fucking hell.
