RCA Summer Show 2006

I went to the RCA Summer Show in London last Friday and wrote it up on my site. It was a pretty astonishing experience and I saw a hell of a lot of cool and interesting things including a bespoke avatar of your friends that wakes up when they come online:

A machine to recast the outer casing of phones in a eutactic metal that melts around the temperature of warm tea:

A device that pits three plants against one another and kills the two that don't grow fastest:

And sock puppets with which you can sing along to jazz:

In fact these are just some of the most amusing things that I saw there and there are many more interesting objets across automotive design, textiles, drawing, animation, interaction design etc. etc.

Has anyone else been to the event yet? It's just down by the Albert Memorial and it's free to enter. It's only on until this coming Sunday. If you do go, which bits did you like most?

Looks good - help a brother out, though. Is it in the main building, or the building on Battersea Park Road?

Yes, but is the interesting stuff in the RCA main building or the sculpture department?

I went on Wednesday evening; bit of a headtrip to say the least!

I also liked Availabot -- I want a whole desk full of them -- but the saddle bag was/is a wonderful idea, too (can't remember who made it; I neglected to take a card and I've forgotten her name, d'oh).
