I need to ask a question and this is the best thread I can find.
What's with the "I'M IN UR [SOMETHING], [SOMETHING] UR [SOMETHING]" meme going round? I've just read a page of cat pics with captions along these lines that made me laugh like a thing deranged, but the meme is new to me, and of course I hate being behind the times on this. I guess it's like "all your base".
Have I been getting more generally pissed off about everything lately, and do I need to just maybe get off the Internet and spend a few days chilling out a bit?
Whoah, thanks for that link, Wonderstar! "Nooo, get out of my head, Charles!", brilliant, I love these! Two of these are a couple of years old, but that ""I'M IN UR" is a recent phenomenon.
It is like all your base. Back in the mists of time, the original was "I am in your base killing your d00ds," in reference to an incident in an online multiplayer game where one player was... well, in another player's base, killing his d00ds, and duly gloating.
The first time I heard of it was when Mordant and Lurid were over and their thread in the Gathering was called "I'M IN UR FRIDGE EATING UR FOODZ". That Mordant, eh? Always down with the kids.
bit late to the party perhaps, but the 'All Your Base' meme comes from the early (some might say, seminal) videogame Zero Wing which featured a bunch of poorly translated Engrish phrases as dialogue including the famous:
ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US
As A Heart Wreathed In Flame rightly points out, it was quite the internet thing once upon a time and turns up in all sorts of places like Futurama and Transmetropolitan. It's geekfuel. In the best way.
