TV sounds can hide machine instructions

At the New Scientist :

quote:The technique of hiding control signals in sound has been developed by Scientific Generics, based at Harston near Cambridge, UK. "We can use the existing infrastructure, putting data in TV sound, over a public address system or a music CD, or in an e-mail or an MP3 file," says Ian Hosking. The company is patenting the technique, which it calls "intrasonics".

The idea of controlling devices with sound is not new. Some early television remote controls emitted ultrasonic bleeps. But they were unreliable. Traffic noise could switch off the television and the ultrasound often upset household pets.

In the new system, coded control signals are spread over a wide range of frequencies, but they are too faint to be audible on a normal domestic sound system. The technique is adapted from spread spectrum technology, which the military developed for more secure radio communications.

I thought they already held instructions for us anyway. Guess it's another upgrade to mind control. We are watching FOX.

These are MACHINE instructions, not HUMAN. Ultrasound receivers built into special machinery would be able to recognize audio output (in the ultrasound range, of course) from the TV and act on it. Mind you there are fancier ways of doing things. There is a computer program somewhere on the internet which makes your computer monitor emit radiation in the AM range thereby enabling you to turn your computer monitor into a low level AM transmitter. You could send music and things of the sort from your monitor to your radio. I'll see if I can find the link.

...cool, very interested in wave transmission for any and all purposes.

I do understand the machine instruction bit but what's the difference between that and the RGB news reporters being projected to our eyes telling us about the world? I mean...the news cast in the background right now is driving me nuts...between every commercial break, there's the rumbling news sound sprite and a three toned bell between different reporters. Ughhh...so distracting...

Plus I think the media and electronic integration being worked into our surrounding environment will make tv even more immersive...I'm just a little worried...my kids may start playing with tv...dancing around with Lala when she doing the same thing with Po on the tube...
