I know the theory is that you can't prepare for this kind of aptidude testing, but I had an experience that made me think that you can. I was applying for the graduate recruit program for the public service, and they put us through two types of computerised testing. The first was testing verbal and reasoning skills, and the second was one of those annoying tests where you have to work out the pattern and select which stupid little diagram is next in line. The computer crashed as I reached the end of the second test, and so I had to come back about a month later and do it again. My girlfriend just happened to have a book full of these stupid little diagrams, so just before the re-test I did every problem and looked up the answers. I don't know how I scored the first time around, but I do know that it was so much easier the second time around, because I had a much better idea of what to look for. So if you think you'll have any of that kind of testing (I think they are called non-verbal reasoning tests), I highly recommend practicing! |
